just wondering if the black padding is really that necessary? i tore mine off for the tubro

 

Just letting you know within the last 2 weeks there has been atleast 4 threads on it, It is only nessisary if you want to keep your underhood paint from messing up.

 

no not the underhood.....the firewall...

 

I think it's called firewall for a reason.

i bet it helps deaden sound, i ripped mine out and i think since now it is just a metal firewall all of the noise from the back of the engine and header just reflects down and out instead of being absorbed.

 

It's also there for a reason!!!

 

I'm sure it helps to deal with the extreme heat from the exhaust manifold and down pipe .

You removed your firewall! Not the underhood heat sheild! correct?

 

wow....nOobZ....i took off the heatshielding on the firewall...nevermind though i checked today after a half hour of driving and it was cool to the touch

 

How bout letting your car idle for an extended period of time after that 30 min drive? I'm willing to bet it was originally intended to protect the components behind the firewall from heat in a heavy traffic situations.

 

well that is possible...but i dont have that problem...i live in a quiet area i guess you could say....anyways even after driving 30 mins i see some heavy loads on the engine...i would guarantee if its not going to put off some heat after that and make it hot then its not going to at idle...no matter ill just buy some heat wrap and recoat the wall afterwards...the black part serves no purpose...just to hide the shiny heat shielding

no you got it wrong....the firewall is the section of metal between the cabin and the engine bay...at least thats what ive always been led to believe.....the black stuff on the bottom of the hood and back of engine bay is just heat shielding

 

If the turbo is so close that you had to remove it, the turbo is close and I believe that you should try to place some sort of heat deflector up..

 

i removed mostly just to make sure there wont be any fitment issues when it goes to the shop on monday to have the dp made...i havent hadf a chance to test fit it yet and im just trying to clear paths...but i do plan on re insulating with some heatshielding
