New Cobalt owner here...

Hey everybody...just wanted to say hi and that I just recently got a 2006 Cobalt SS S/C with the G85 option. My old ride was a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT and I will say that I am even more happier with this car than I was with my Tib. Great handleing nice packaging...GM just did a great job of packaging this car together. My car also has XM and a sunroof, which are both really cool too. Got almost 900 miles on her and my only complaints are the fact that the radiator is loose and that the rotors are already starting to develop grooves on them. Going to the dealer tommorrow to see what they can figure out.

My name is Vincent and I live in Orange Beach, Alabama-but I am from Tuscaloosa. Where are all the Alabama Cobalts at?!?!

Later,
Vince.

Welcome! and enjoy the car!

and as someone else asked already as well: what color ?

I have around 2700ish miles on mine and the rotors do show some small grooving.. but so far not worried about it. Hopefully yours don't have a problem or something.

Mine is Victory Red. It is like the fifth red car I've had. I wanted another color but that was the only one they had and I wanted it. I mean the little things about this car just blow me away every day I drive it. I grew up around Fords and I used to always say that I would never own a Chevy but damn this thing is nice. Hopefully I'll be getting 20 percent on her tommorrow. Thanks for the comments, I have been on several forums and this one seems to be pretty top notch so far. Can't wait for the mods to begin!!!

I am thinking Injen intake to be first mod because I had one on the Tib and it was by far the best bang for buck mod that I did to that car.

I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

Later,
Vince.

By the way, the radiator/condensor/heat exchanger feeling loose is normal!

Really? Why do you say that? And from what I understand the brakes having small groves in them are normal too...right?

Yeah I guess unless they get so deep it's ok. Some people here have the same issue.

I have a little warping in my rotors already, typical GM BS rotors.

Didn't say i liked it! Just that it's normal. I checked 10 different cobalts! AS for the brakes, there should be NO grooves and the rotors will last if you respect them!

I always have problems with their rotors.

If you live in a stop and go traffic environment like a metro area you use the brakes a lot and often have lots of quick stops, you will have rotor issues.

In my S10 it starting braking coming down the side of a mountain. I didn't have any weight in the back, just me and my passenger.

I probably will try to get some better rotors when they get bad enough hopefully that will help.

I live in a large metro area, i drive like an a$$ as well but here is what i do, 1) Whenever i'm stopped, my foot is off the brake. This allows the caliper to release and help prevent a hot spot/warping. 2) I try to use shorter but harder braking instead of a long dragging stop. I have never warped a rotor on my Impala that runs 11's and lord knows i've abused the brakes. I used to replace rotors on the Impalas all the time at the dealer so apparently my methods work??
