So is anybody running a ZZP header/downpipe with STOCK catback? i hate ricey sounding
Being that I'm a mustang guy.............I think some of the cobalts I've heard with exhaust sound like ass. But I also like making more power..................so I wanted to do a ZZP midlength header/downpipe with 3inch downpipe and 2.5 bolt-in, but I"d like to just run my stock exhaust with it. will I see any sizeable gains doing it like this? I'm trying to avoid getting the ultra rice sound that seems to come from running a header/downpipe and aftermarket exhaust on these cars. OR..........can somebody recommend a catback that doesn't sound like I'm farting through a 5inch PVC tube? Thanks.

I also have a midlength combo with a stock catback. When the exhaust is cold it is a little raspy but when it warms up it sounds really good. I think the best way to describe it is that the header/dp gives the car a moan similar to the 350z's and G35's when excelerating normal and when you get on it the car is a louder but nothing loud enough were you would draw cops attention.

Hey stealthy, I think my balt blows out black smoke just like yours, cuz a buddy at work told me my motor was blown cuz I let out a dark puff when I left a stoplight from lunch the other day! hah. Whats your setup? So is it noticably different sounding than stock? What kinda gains did you notice with the header/downpipe versus stock? thanks.
i noticed a good amount of gain.. i just noticed in my one 0-60 video with the tsudo that it was about 8 seconds and i didn't relaly get on it because my exhaust was still new.. and back when i was stock i had about an 8 second 0-60 when i got on it.. i'm assuming i'm actually around 7 seconds or so now..
i feel it alot more up top but it makes me giddy..

The car is on the stock tune. I plan on getting a tune in a couple of weeks so that should clear it up. The point of that in car vid was to get a look at KR cause the car starts knocking on the top end of 3rd. I have another vid were the KR hits 5.9 which = no good!

I have 1.75 primaries 3" to 2.5" dp w/cat. The reason it sounds raspy is cause the car was cold, once it warms up it isn't raspy. I have noticed sometimes though that the car is a little raspy when you free rev it but not when you are driving.

x2 brother, great minds think alike. im running 60s with a 2.6 and still on my stock exhuast and catback. i can tell my stock exhuast is more agressive from the intake and 2.6, but im afraid to change it and have it sound shitty. it sounds quite with an agreesive deep mellow tone right now i love it. but i know im not seeing true gains with the exhaust. our stock catback is 2.5" until the back axle, where it turns into 2.25" and into the muffler. techically all we have to do is change the axle back and its still stay on the quiter side, a nice mangaflow muffler and even put on another resonator would be fine as well. our header and downpipe are the ss/sc's major restriction, plus the fact that it gets down to 2.0" at the 02 sensor on the dp. make sure you get a cat to keep the sound down, and a 2.5" dp for a little less of the "raspy" sound. there is gonna be a group buy for the zzp header/dp combo, look on zzp's vendor thread on here.
best way to go is to get something custom made if you want it to be the exact way you want it. zzp has an awesome whisper resonator that actually WORKS very very well, ive heard it on a 3.0" catback and i could barely tell it wasnt stock. im very sensitive to exhuast sounds, but i like magnaflow mufflers the best (plus theyre made in the usa). find someone you trust who will make your exhuast the way you want it, and it should be at half the cost of buying one from a vendor. remember this too when your listening to exhuast clips, NO one ever sits right next to your bumber to listen to the exhaust. any exhaust sounds loud when you have the camera right next to it. i always want to know how it sounds from about 20+ feet back!! thats what everyone is gonna hear when you pass them
dude i have no cat and its not really that ricey it sounds for like a ******* truck...you have tio work with your set ups.i have only one muffler on there the megan and it just keeps the rasp away yea at first when its cold you hear some rasp but it goes away its just deep loud and thoaty scars people next to me in the next car but that my imo i love mine i bet you can get a just a res put in and no cat and you'll get the sound your looking for. yea just pure straight pipe will be raspy but you just got to play around with it.i'm not putting down cats one kid has high flow and just a muffler so almost just like mine not as loud tho but its by far not a high pitch sound as in the ricer term

Im running the ZZP midlength header with 1.75" primaries and a stainless 3" downpipe comboed with the stock ss/sc exhaust with a electric exhaust cutout just after the stock resonator. With the cutout closed the car is nice and quiet but gets quite louder when I get on it. With the cut out open the car rumbles. I havent noticed any real hp loss or gain between the stock exhaust or the tsudo exhaust that I had before or the custom dual side exit exhaust before that. I bet theres very little difference. Ill have to get some clips up.

wat kind of power gains did you notice or did you dyno it? how much am i looking to see with 60s 2.6 intake and an awesome Wicked tune (1.75 prim with 2.5 dp and highflow cat)

With your mods you should have at least a 3" to 2.5" downpipe. I don't know how much I gained cause I didn't dyno the car but with you mods you will see quite a bit of a gain.
Yea im running the Vibrant/Corsa set up... and all i cant say its LOUD!!!!! its so loud that you can hear me for miles away lol. The cops have a feld day with me about my exhaust and when its cold it so raspy i hate it. So i am looking at maybe picking up the whisper resenator and swaping out the corsa one and seeing what happens. I have to do something!!!!
i like the idea of 2.5dp rather thhan the 3.0dp just to keep it a little quiter. i dont think ill see any more hp with the 3.0 dp, but thats just my own opinion. i just want it as quite as i can get it
ZZP's options for dp's are 3", 2.5", or 3" reducing to 2.5". I don't think that a 1/2" is going to make a difference in noise but you should at least get the 3" to 2.5" downpipe.
