Sorry if this is a pointless post.

My searches didn't really turn up much.


Lately my SS/SC has been heating up to a record high while idling at lights, up to 227...
This seems very high to me and I don't know what would be causing this.

My normal driving temp is usually right at 181.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you checked your coolant?

 

What ambient temperatures are you seeing?

I know here in Vegas, in the middle of the summer reaching 110* ^, I've seen idles around 230*

 

go to your tuner and get him to make your cooling fans run 100% of the time, that willcool it down some

 

227 really isn't anything to worry about, especially in Texas, as long as your fans are kicking in. My normal temp is about 178, but at idle (especially after driving in traffic), I typically see 225-230 since you're not moving and pulling air in to cool things down naturally. As long as it goes back down once you're moving again, you're fine.

 

after driving in traffic and then stopping its hot because there is no moving air to cool it its actually not that terriblely bad.

If your worried,

turn on your air conditioner and it will run your fans 100%

I dislike anything above 210 personally but it IS normal to go around 230ish

I have checked the coolant, seems fine.

227 seemed a bit high, but I feel at ease now.

That is normal becuase the cooling fan for the radiator does not come on until the water temps hit 225. Turn your ac on like others said and it will run the auxilary fan preventing it from going past about $195 at idle.

 

Both fan go into high speed at 230 Im pretty sure.The ECM commands Low Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:


Low speed fan on
• Engine coolant temperature (ECT) exceeds approximately 106°C (223°F).

• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1 310 kPa (190 psi).

• After the vehicle is shut off, the ECT at key-off is greater than 140°C (284°F) and system voltage is more than 12 volts. The fans will stay on for approximately 3 minutes.

The ECM commands High Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:

• ECT reaches 110°C (230°F).

• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1 655 kPa (240 psi).
