Brakes gone @ 9700 miles

I went outside to install my piggyback unit and looked at my brakes because they were makeing noise this week and noticed that they were completely shot. I don't drive that hard for them to be shot already. 9700 miles and front brakes shot. The rotors are grooved pretty bad also. Do you think the dealer will do something for me are should I just bite the bullet and buy new brakes.

Take it in tell them the pads are too hard and its a common problem. I just took mine in with 9800 miles and they did it no questions asked.

I just got told the same thing, I took it in to get them to check the rotors, because they were so badly grooved, and he tells me that I have 2% left on me pads, i only have 30000 km on my car ( 18600 miles) WTF!

now they want $500cnd to service the calipers, machine the rotors, and replace the OEM pads.

I don't drive that hard with my car, and I got double the mileage on the breaks when I had my Cavi.

this is definitely something that should be covered under warranty

Any more thoughts?

Rotors covered under warranty yes, the pads no because they are a wear item. The calipers are also a wear item.

u dont have to drive hard to wear out the pads. it all depends on how soon u start braking, u brake last minute and hard your going to wear out those pads. u start braking lightly and sooner, and your pads will last a long time.

well, I talked to dealer and he claims there is a caliper and nuckle service required every second tire rotatio 20k km about 13k miles, and he won't even machine my rotors because my rotors arent worpped, there just groved real bad, which he claims is because of the way I drive.

which is what I ment about the way I drive. I have almost never had to slam my breaks, and I definitely don't make a habit of breaking hard.

thats why I pissed, there is no way I'm spend $150 for him to machine my rotors, when it should be covered under warrenty.

so what do you guy's think, is it just shitty rotors or pads that don't ware evenly,

if I where to switch to Greens, would the rotors still groove?

The worping is coverd but if it's grooved there not which is what I have been told.

I just flipped 24,000 miles this morning coming home from work. After reading this thread, i went outside (freezing my ass off in the process) and checked my brakes... they're just like new. I still don't get what you guys are doing to these cars.

Before I posted, I called a friend who has a 05 SS/SC and asked him to check his brakes... After a long pause and a why? He did it. Both inner and outer pads, front & rear, are like new on his. He has 10,000 miles on his car.

Weird.

well.....you could always totally defeat the "bad brakes" problem and buy the SSBC kits......they are quite fantastic

Stock brakes are ok. My rotors are grooved @ 9400 miles, and I started squeeking today. Looks like it's time for Powerslotted Rotors, and Red or Green stuff brake pads. The upgrade was definatley worth it on my Z24.

I just ordered a pair of front rotors from JBP, gonna buy green stuff to, it's pretty hard to find local here so I'll probably have to get them from TTR.

I'll do the same for the rear when they start to go, but there pretty good right now

my pads look new but my rotors are grooved hard and my wheel is doing the shakes when i brake, im definitely taking it in and demanding free rotors or machining at the very least.

you have warped your rotors... this usually occurs from driving them hard (stopping quick from high speed, riding them and peaking temperatures). That's usually not covered under warranty. I used to drive my Cavaliers really hard and got used to warped rotors, especially the el cheapo replacements i got from advance auto.

usually a garage will not turn factory rotors.
I used to do it myself and it only alleviated the problem for a couple of high speed stops.

brakes

He may have gotten some bad components. But I do know alot of people brake way too hard and often. Have followed people mant times who hit their brakes 20 times and I haven't touched mine once. Then coming to a redlight they go flying by me and then jam on the brakes.
