I'm starting this thread because I bought the GMPP warranty. Now, I have experience with the warranty, which is why I got it. Here's the issue, my driver for getting it was looking at a list of what's not covered in the drive train warranty - which included the turbocharger :-)

however in my handy/dandy limited warranty booklet is says the turbocharger is included in the powertrain warranty - page 5. Upon further inspection the turbocharger is a part of the fuel system and falls under the /emissions warranty parts list/.

On page 25 of the thin limited warranty book is the turbocharger* - where * is related to the California emissions warranty - nice :-), 8 years and 100K miles.

So that said, page 7 lists what's not covered, i.e. racing/competition - but check the owners manual for what's considered okay for YOUR car. Our Cobalt SS's :-) It doesn't list the turbocharger as /not/ covered

So the question remains is the turbocharger under the 3yr/36K or the 5yr/100K, in California it is clearly covered under 8yr/100K mile California enforced warranty :-)

What does the The Chevy 100,000-Mile Warranty include?
In general, the powertrain warranty covers the engine, transmission, transfer case and axle assemblies on light duty vehicles as indicated below:

* Engine
Cylinder head, block, timing gears, timing chain, timing cover, oil pump/oil pump housing, OHC carriers, valve covers, oil pan, seals, gaskets, turbocharger, supercharger and all internal lubricated parts as well as manifolds, flywheel, water pump, harmonic balancer and engine mount. Diesel engine coverage includes the timing belts until the first scheduled maintenance interval.

oh, and the GMPP doesn't cover the clutch, even though in some documents say "direct clutch" which is an automatic tranny component (but don't expect the salespeople to know the difference)

 

I've never purchased any extended warranty. I consider most of them to be scams.

 

the manual clutch is like a brake pad, so yah, i get that.

i was thinking it was a scam from the dealer. the crazy part is it's printed on official GMPP paperwork.

I'll get it resolved ASAP...

I have the extended on an 03 and it's been worth it :-)

my dealer informed me the warranty didnt cover the turbo so i bought the extended 5 year 75k bumper to bumper. maybe i will get a refund.

 

how much was that? any link to prices?

 

it was 1120.00. covers the car bumper to bumper 5 year 75,000. the seller for me was if you dont use it (if you dont bring the car in for waranty work after the standard 36 month 36,00 mile warranty is up) after your pass the 5 year 75k warranty you get the full 1120.00 back.

 

WOW. nice. and can you buy this anytime up untill the 36,000? or is there a time limit?

 

I guess I can't speak about the Cobalt, but I know for a fact the turbocharger on the Duramax is covered under the 5 yr/100k warranty. I can't imagine they'd have different policies for different vehicles, but anything's possible, I guess.

 

Yes, it's covered.
The standard 100k extension covers lubricated drivetrain components. Since the turbo is lubricated, it's covered.
