3 year old Cobalt LS 2.2 warped rotors

So my lease is up on my 05 cobalt ls 2.2 and i have decided to buy. Just recently my car has been shaking horribly on braking and over speeds of 40. I took it to the dealership -- not covered under warranty. 25000 miles. they said I needed a wheel balance and wanted to resurface the rotors and replace the brakes. I havent had anything replaced since I leased it. They said brakes and rotors and balance 300 bucks. I told them just to balance for 48 bucks and ill come back when i get paid.

300 bucks. Ripoff or can a better deal be had?

For new brakes, turn the rotors and balance? We charge a set rate of $160 i beleive for a brake job up here. Unless you are getting new rotors Id say its a little steep.

yeah, wow...300 does sound steep. I might add that they quoted me 300 for only the front brakes

Thanks for the quick response

you can get rotors and pads for ~$300

Also, many of our vendors offer great prices on rotors too!

Ok, anybody know of a place around the Metro Detroit Area that will machine my rotors? Or is it just better to buy new ones and have someone put them on? I know the terminology but I do not possess the know-how to replace them myself.

Is that a GM dealer? If so ask them if they have a set rate for brake jobs. If its $250 ($300-balance) then thats a rip. See if there are any well known smaller shops around your area.

Just do the wheel balance and do rotors + pads yourself... MUCH cheaper and is like an hour worth of work

My original front rotors lasted about 4000 miles. They were junk.
