ss/sc brakes

many times when i roll backwards or go in reverse (especially when it's wet) my rear brakes make a horrible low pitch screaching noise. im not too sure wat it is. i checked my brake pads and they have about 20% life left on them, however, i changed them about 3 months ago so they wore down very fast and i don't really give my car that much hell. i took it to the dealership for maintenance and asked them to look at it while i was there but the gm tech had a doctors appointment so i wasn't able to speak with anyone and noticed on the sheet when i got home that they couldn't hear the sound. does anyone know what could be causing this?

thanks

when i took it to the dealership a few weeks ago they looked at my rotors and brakes and said everything appeared fine, but i will probably let my friends dad take a look at them for a second opinion since he is a mechanic and i don't know all that much about brakes

the dealership may have found something and because it only causes a noise they ignore it. have him look at it, then you'll know.

the dealership said that they couldn't even find a noise, but i kinda got a feeling that they didn't wanna mess with it because they didn't have anyone talk to me and they backed my car into a spot so i wouldn't go in reverse. i will probably just go back and ask to speak with someone and show them it myself

i get this every once in awhile. it's a deep tone and loud in the cabin. i'm thinking it could be a pad stuck to the rotor causing rubbage before it releases. doesn't happen all the time or that often but when it does i know it.

Dont set the e brake. Just leave it in gear and see if it does it. My car has also done that a few times, but I'm about due for some new brakes.

^ yeah i believe it is dealing with the e-brake. even after replacing all rotors and pads mine still does it once in awhile. it's a pretty widespread issue with the cobalts but it isn't considered a high risk problem to be considered for recall.
