No dipstick on the auto. Just a fluid level checking plug -- have to have the car on a lift, running, in idle to check. Crazy isn't it?

Not just the Cobalt either.......

well, that's all auto trans, is it that screw cap on the top of the trans?just beind the motor?

No it is a screwed in plug near the converter -- under the car. That plastic cap your referring to is a vent cap.

From factory GM service manual -- plug is on same side as converter housing:
