Loud wine, Low exhaust noise???
Loud wine, Low exhaust noise???
Has anyone had this problem?? I am having problems with my cars exhaust... Would a clogged cat cause a louder supercharger noise and a quiter exhaust?

when my cat clogged it blew my supercharger bypass valve open, needed to replace my o2 sensor, exhust was very quite, only boosted to 10psi, cause the bypass valve, struggled to rev up to like 5500
i have a vibrant header and down pipe. the inside of the cat clogged and got wedged in the pipe. hit almost 24lbs boost exhaust was about as loud as stock and all you could hear was blower whine. and as far as boost goes i have a 2.7 pulley so 24 lbs is not right. un clogged the cat and now back to the normal 17-18 lbs boost and exaust is loud as ever.
i had a '91 ford t-bird SC, with the stock eaton supercharger on it. got it from my parents w/ 110k miles, stock cats and such. few months later around 115k, exhaust got restrictive and i don't know if you've ever heard the SC in that car but it was loud normally, you heard it every time you were in boost... even at 2psi! when the cats clogged, it was very loud. (no, not meowing kittens loud
) stock boost was 12 max like our cars, but mine jumped to about 13, 14 when this would happen.
best thing to do is go WOT and blast the clogged particles out under high boost. don't sit there for 10 seconds waiting for it to happen, try it for 1-2 seconds because you can do damage like cobalttc05 experienced, though i had it happen several times in that t-bird never had any problems, but be careful. as the oxidizers fall apart inside the cat, chunks get lodged, i'd just floor it and blow out black **** all over the road. though i had a good jam once and it didn't come out for a few days and many attempts.
give it a whirl, ya might just need to get the crap out. punch it from a 5-10mph roll, if it is unresponsive after several attempts, take the cat out and rattle it to see if you can hear the crap that's clogged. best of all, after it does become unclogged, you'll have less oxidizing material in the cat = higher flowrate and we all love that
free highflow cat!!
worst cause scenario is you take the cat out and dump a bit of water in. it'll disolve the oxidizers a bit, making the clogged particles come out easier. or, just soak the whole thing in water overnight to get it all out. there's also the high-flow cat or no cap option, whatever suites your needs.
