How many Pistons are in the 2007 Cobalt SS/SC Brake Calipers?
The 05-07 brakes on the Cobalt SS/SC are a very good setup. Personally, I think the Brembo's are overkill on the 08-09's and those guys are gonna be pissed when the time comes to fix broken or worn parts.
Just my opinion, though. I absolutely love the Brembo setup, I just don't think it's needed...

Didn't these guys use these brakes? https://www.cobaltss.net/cobaltss_timeattack.php
During the time attack... with all that added HP and such, seems like they should be more than good enough if that's the case...
What do you guys think?

its not so much piston count here, 04-07 ran the largest single piston ever on a GM car. with there most aggressive pad liner (even more then the vette, HP-1000 Vs. HP-800)
the duel piston "brembos" are nothing more then a GM piece with there name on the side.
they are a far cry from a true brembo ( srt8 chassis, Porsche, ect)
they were primarily engineered by the brake group in Milford, with assistance from brembo, mostly FEA, and some of the durability cycles.
also, if you add the diameters from the smaller dual pistons in the "brembos" and compare it with the dia of the large single piston on the 04-07 cars you'll see the difference is nothing more then a few millimeters.
(remember were talking effective area here, inside the caliper.)
are the brembos nice, yes. Are they snazzy looking, yes.
but performance wise, its much closer then you would think.
the 09+ cars owe much of there better 70-0/60-0 lengths to the wider tire, thus higher ABS system limits.
iirc, the TA car runs AP's or Alcons.
you cant compare any OE brake to them.

Personally, I wouldn't call the fix 4's on the TC overkill. Any feature in a car can be an overkill if you don't need it or use it. If GM simply design the SS/TC to be a normal commuter, then the 260hp will be excessive, or the track tuned chassis or the 4 piston caliper.
Many advantages with fix 4 over floating single like heat dissipation to minimize fade and light(er) weight to reduce unsprung to compensate increased wheel size weight.
IMO, If you do DE's, the fix 4 will help a lot. If you do DE's with R's, then fix 4 is essential.
