Oil Pressure Gauge?

Ok, maybe I'm not looking hard enough...

Did GM really omit an oil pressure monitor of some kind?

its only electronic. its a "dummy" gauge we should say. when it sees low oil pressure...it throws on a light to indicate that you better pull the **** over. lol

No doubt there's a dummy light. That does me no good when I'm looking to check out my pressure at idle/at speed though. This might be one of my first non-performance mods.

yes this is true because the first sign of a failing oil pump is lack of pressure at idle .. good call

Maybe the super-dooper-advanced ECMs in our cars are smart enough to monitor actual pressure and throw a code if it senses a failing pump....

They watch just about everything else, friggin' blackboxes.

It will tell you when the oil pressure is low, besides that you get nothing.

Are any 2008's old enough to have enough miles, to expect an oil pump failure?

Expected life before a wear failure should easily be past 120k miles. Other defects could happen at any number of miles (from 1 to 1 million).

No, the only oil pressure monitoring that is done is with a switch - on or off. If its too low, the light is triggered, but you have no idea what the actual pressure is.

Its one of my biggest pet peeves. GM did this with the Saturn as well - the 91 and 92 Saturns had a real oil pressure gauge that actually monitored oil pressure. They removed both in the 93 and went to a switch. Of course the #1 killer of old Saturns is someone forgetting to check their oil, letting it run low, and throwing a rod. Many Many later model cars that have a gauge on the dash - you think that's a pressure gauge on the dash? Nope! Just a switch that shows high or low (Ford I am looking at YOU.)
