To all the Canadian SS/TC owners out there (or anywhere that gets snow). This is an advanced warning of what's to come. Mother nature just gave us a sign. If there is snow on the ground and you have an SS/TC with stock tires, you will die. I pulled into the office parking lot and there was a thin layer of fresh snow on the ground. Even with such a small amount of snow I was very careful and still had the LOW TRACTION indicator flashing at me a few times...JUST PARKING THE CAR! Please make sure you go and get yourself some 17" wheels with decent winter rubber, you'll be happy you did. I bought the OEM 17's off a 2.4 Cobalt a few months ago and the winter rubber is arriving this week.

P.S. The OEM PSI boost gauge came in yesterday and with the help of the lovely Sean (ninja44), the install was quick and painless. Thanks you big asian man!

i ran blizakks last winter and those tires are the ****. i never had a problem.

LOL, of course man, this goes out to all the Cobalt owners but primarily to the SS/TC owners that are possibly debating on forking out the extra money for 17"+ wheels or even expensive 18" winter rubber. DO IT!!! No price is too high for safety. Don't try to be a hero with stock summer rubber.

i hope you bought spacers for those stock 17's. they wont clear your brembo's.

 

They will, by 2mm tho

You need a 3mm spacer. 5mm is sufficient enough. I ran a 3mm total gap on my sc between caliper and rim..
They make 17's that clear without spacers for cheap. This is a hot topic lately, its not a big problem we'll be ok

Next year I will have a beater full time. The 17's will get racing rubber..

 

I don't believe the 17's will fit over the brembos...I know the 18's off an SS/SC won't even fit over the brembos....

 

snow tires are indeed a requirement....blizzaks do the cougar good, ws-50 i believe they're called have done me right for 4 years, this year i think i'll be doin 2 new fronts with an actual speed rating and seein how that goes.

 

What 17's ? The SS 2.4? I think there is even a photo around here showing them clearing the brembo's if I recall correctly. There was 2 sets that cleared mine, I will get photos of my set up when done.

17's fit. Not all 17" designs will get around the WIDTH of the Brembos, but as far as length, it's fine.

 

I was just caught in a snow storm the news station never mentioned. I never drive my SS/SC in the snow so i was pissed off. I have Pirelli Pzero Neros, and I must say for a high performance tire they did well in the snow.

 

Yeah you can just look at these tires and know that they aren't going to do squat in the snow. NO sipes and pretty much no tread blocks either. YIKES!

 

i do have to agree the right rubber is key but thats only half of it
the loss nut behind the wheel is the rest and you cant just get driving experience it is earned
i will say a lil dirt track racing does help

That is why my cobalt Ss/Sc is in a nice warm garage. She never sees bad weather or snow.
