Trunk Leaking
Trunk Leaking
I have a 2008 cobalt with a sunroof. everytime it rains the trunk fills up with water. it has been back to the dealer 6 times so far and the problem is still not fixed. can anyone give advice on what i should do?
it fills up on the driver side where the trunk slopes down. its underneath the sub that came with the car. i dont get the water out...the dealer does everytime i bring it back for them to fix
Check the Lemon Laws in your state. Usually after a certain number of tries to fix the same problem, and its not resolved, its considered a Lemon and is replaced with a new car. Its an involved process and you may get the run-a-round, but stick to your guns, and don't let up. Get an attorney or at least tell the dealership your thinking of retaining one. That will usually light a fire under their backside. Its a new car still under warranty. If the dealership screws around, go higher up in the chain.

Go to google and google up Lemon Laws for New Jersey. There is a link to the consumers guide to NJ Lemon Laws that will explain the criteria for your car to be considered a lemon.

Just thinking...could it be the driver's side fender well? Possibly...open the trunk lift the carpet and try pouring some water into the hole to see where it goes. If it goes nowhere then it's probably a seal.
I would agree with the self fixes if it was a used car or out of warranty. But his is a 2008 and should still be under warranty and if he tries to "self fix it" the dealer/Chevy could always come back and say that it caused the problem. If he took it to a dealer for a fix each time than there is a record of each service attempt to fix it. Every time it happens, run that puppy back to the dealer for a fix AND another recorded service visit for the same problem. I would not spend one penny on trying to fix it--if its under warranty let GM pick up the tab. And if you get no satisfactory answer from the service guy, go to the service mgr., than to the dealership mgr, up the chain. Don't be an ass about it but do be persistant.
PaNic, if it were mine, I would take that car to the dealer, get them to give you a loaner, and tell them not to call you until they have fixed the problem. Lemon attorneys will jump on a case like this, IF it is legit, and meets the criteria for a "lemon".

Under the sub-forum, Recalls, there's a guy with the same problem, posted today. His is leaking from the drivers side rear window and leaking into the trunk also.

on the redlines there's two rear sunroof drains in the trunk that go out behind the rear quarterpanels. if you have them too, they may be clogged or simply not capable of expelling the volume of water you need them to. the fix is to pop them out and snip off the tip so water drains freely out. check over on redline forums for a picture-filled how-to in the how-to section.
they have replaced all the hoses for the sunroof drain and cleared out the hoses of any dirt that could have got in there. i have a stack of papers from the repairs the dealer did. the service manager said that there is a bulletin out for this problem. i have been taking full advantage of the warranty. the past two times the car has been back, a GM rep has been getting involed. just this last monday the GM rep looked and said to seal the right rear quarter panel by the taillights.
besides the water getting in the trunk...the computer has died once and the tire pressure monitoring system has been replaced. (as a side not to what else has been wrong with this car)

When i took the factory sub out of my car i noticed that where the factory drain tube on the drivers side was ran through the quarter panel it was actually getting pinched by the sub when it was tightened back up......if they are replacing your tubes and putting them back where they are suppose to go then they are getting pinched everytime.......Just my 2 cents.....maybe take it apart yourself and check this......Later
