ummm the ECU does that cuz your tires will degrade EXTREMELY fast above 105...they're not built for speed.

EDIT: LOL just read your mod list nvm

I agree, Basically it is not a Sports Car. It's a nice looking car that get's you around town.

It will not tolerate or behave in a safe manner at extreme speeds. Parts will fail and then you will die.

The govenor is set there to save man and machine.

Hmmm, Not "Safe..."

They are "Rated... "

The speed rating is simply the speed that the tires will deform and seperate... Why push that on an economy car?

If you want "Super Fast" there are cheap bikes that will easily go 260 Km/h..

The speed govenor is set that low becasue of the tire rating from the factory, ie base 105, Lt with sport apperance is 120. I've been working with my dealer to get this changed as of now only getting a new PCM will do this but thats $$$$$ plus install and program.

my buddy is a head mechanic at a chevy dealership. he has told me hes tried time and time again to get the programming to up the governor when customers have upgraded wheels etc. but they wont give it out. Good thing to.... we would have alot *******'s killing themselves... but would that be a bad thing?

a couple different tuning packages are coming out soon, you should be able to do it with them.

dumbasses dying would be great, i just wish i could see them flying off the road when they are going 120+mph (or when i push them off the road)

FWIW, I've had mine at 120, and its stable at that speed. ***DISCLAIMER: I have GOOD tires, not that ***** they pass off on the base models***.

Not all Cobalts are limited to 105MPH by their tires.

My car came with the Continentals and I still was able to go 120+MPH.

That would be because we don't have one. Once it hits 145-150 drag will prevent further acceleration.

I wouldn't say its so much the car...since there are 2.2 cobalts with a higher set governor. It just depends on the tires your car is equipped with from the factory. Not saying that this car is well behaved at high speeds but I'm pretty sure your car wont fall apart and die at 110-115.

My car is set at 108 govenor, I wouldn't mind it to be moved up to about 120. I'm sure I'll never go that fast and if I get too excited when I get my nitrous I wont have to worry about hitting the govenor on spray. Other than the nitrous issue, I have no problem with where its at.

Guys, does no one listen to me?

My base model has Continentals and it STILL goes to 120+ MPH. From what I can tell it has nothing to do with the kind of tires on your ride.

So perhaps it has to do with what factory the car was made at?

well maybe someone just wasn't paying attention when your car went through the assembly line...either that or GM just gives these cars random govenors since my car techinically came with Ion 3 wheels yet mine is at 108 and not 120 like the ion 3.

however, its TECHNICALLY supposed to be determined by factory tire ratings...
