Boy, I am now sure I would have made a mistake just as soon as I saw an SS in front of me. The dealership put 18" MK1 wheels on it and man were they hot, but I think I really would miss not getting the SS :)

Someone made great sense yesterday ;)

Yeah I thought about it just to save money and have a lower payment. Luckily they havent had 1 manual coupe. So I havent even been tempted yet.

Well my car was only $13,700. I am adding my own wheels and tires to it. Even then I am still way less then a SS. I can build it up to have more HP then a SS, and still be cheaper then a SS. Insurance is cheaper then a SS. Payment is cheaper then a SS. Uses less gas then a SS... :D

It won't use less gas if you make it put out more HP. Suspension isn't as good, not ground effects, not as nice of an interior, no voiding of warrenty.

I get what you're saying, and for a lot of cars on the market, your ideas will make sense , this car is not one of them though. A turbo kit alone will put you close to what you will be able to get an SSSC for.

There is absolutely NO way you can make it as fast as an SS and upgrade the suspension to match the SS for cheaper... no way.

Well if you just do the sticker price difference

13,700 -

$8,295

Thats probably enough to get a stock cobalt more horsepower than the SS or enough to get it handling better than the SS. Probably not both tho. Unless your putting in a lot of elbow grease and get some good deals on parts ect.

that is completely lame

For someone to do a buildup of a coupe would be a cool project, but 8G's to redo the internals, turbo, intercooler, exhaust, intake, PCM, suspension... I see that 8G's getting dropped fairly easily.

For $8000 I do not see you being able to afford the following to make your car faster/better

-Supercharger
-Intercooler
-Short Throw transmission
-18' Rims
-Pirelli P Zero Tires
-Sport tuned suspension (shocks, thicker roll bar, etc etc)
-Two Leather Bucket seats, One leather back bench seat
-MP3 player Pioneer stereo
-Boost gague
-leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter
-coloured inserts in doors
-Huge ass wing (ok, you can forget that onE, I don't even want it)
-Ground effects kit
-Chrome tip exhaust

I am sure I am forgetting some things too. But hey....you do have an arm rest

HP is only one part of a car

Don't forget the little things like the Pioneer 7 speaker system (that kicks btw) and power windows and locks with keyless entry. The 13,700 doesn't even have an armrest that the LS has. If I wanted to go that route I'd take the LS with the 1sb package with rear spoiler delete, give you the nicer interior, but then you're talking like a 4 grand difference, not an 8.

The one I worked out on a LS w/ Sport Appearance Package (and spoiler delete), including leather interior but not the suspension components, you're only coming out better by a matter of a couple hundred dollars after you add ground effects a spoiler and wheels.

Worth the 8 g's all by itself. I want all my coworkers to see I have a Cobalt SS S/C with the giant ass wing. Of course a Cobalt SS S/C would be like the bottom of the barrel where I work. I compete with M3's, STi's, Mercedes, Lexuses.

Lot of people make a lot of money in the DC area.

So true, so true.
I see so many upscale cars. The sad part is, most of these folks don't really work hard for their stuff. Not only that, but they don't take good care of their cars either. I guess it doesn't matter since Daddy will buy them a new one.

(This is a gross generalization. This is not directed toward anyone on this forum. Please don't start a flame war)

I am sure if I spent $8k on my cobalt I could make it tear up a SS on the track. I am not talking all the ground effects crap and the stereo (yeah that helps a car be faster and handle better  )

NA cars with 8 grand into them can easily surpass 200hp
if you think its impossible, then you are retarded
especially with all the ecotech performance shit available
