Blacking Out My Interior
Blacking Out My Interior
I was curious how I would go about doing this. I want to change the interior color from the stock grey to black. I was wondering what I should go about this with all the different interior parts, i.e. the door panels, seats, headliner, carpet, dash, center console, rear deck, etc...Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
It probably isn't worth doing, it's a lot of work and money. But if you do it, just buy interior parts one at a time from members here. Buying the parts brand new from a dealer will kill you, financially. While I think black is def better than gray, I can't justify spending that much money on it. Go spend your money on something else instead! buy rims or something
you could paint, or check your local junk yards for messed up ss balt, take out all the black you can there, after that you wont have to much to do but the headliner, pillars, and front trim on the dash which is easy...
all plasic parts can be taken out and painted just sand it really good and even prime it "prob dont need to prime" and seats well you would have to get them re fabicated witch would cost alot and or be hard to do but im gonna do the same thing and im just thinking of a way to change the recaro seats but the rest will be easy i did it on my saturn and messed up alittle bit but i learned alot in the process of it : )
I originally painted all my interior black. Then i found a junkyard with a lt2 cobalt, took all the stuff i would need out and put it into my car. Cost me 200. Im not doing a power window swap, so i painted my door panels with Krylon Fusion Satin/Flat black paint. Used some Nice leather Vinyl and some #m super 90 adhesive for the inserts. Done. All black interior with leather door panels. Came out great.
I got an amazing deal on mine. Both SS black door panels, the part under the steering wheel, the glove box and the dash ends for $200
.
Now i'm working on the leather seats. Looks a hell of a lot better already though.
Only reason I am against painting is that it ruins the textured finish.

Replacing all of them can get costly, but if its black you want that would offer the best quality. You can paint them but it can scratch, even if you do clear coat them. I painted mine, and yes it does look much better the the grey. Also remember high traffic area's and panels that get hit and touched more are more prone to scuffing and scrathcing, often like the grey ones along the door jam, the door panels, and the rear side panels (if you put things in the back seat). I have repainted and touch up many of my panels. It get kinda annoying, but when it scratches it looks like ****. Also the two hardest one to take out are the ones that surround the the small rear window... check out my pics if you wanna see some of what i did they are on the second page of my pics
This is where you are wrong... i used self-etching primer, and black plastic and vinyl paint and i still have the textured look.

white scotchbright pad and a plastic cleaning paste to scuff um up, dry off really well, wipe with an anti static cloth and silicone remover or a wax and grease remover, if you using rattle can put quite a few light coats on and you should be set to go.... as for the headliner you can order a the backing bored and just have someone upholester it for you unless you have access to a special glue gun for the tacky stuff.
My friend/roomate Kris did this with his '05 Focus. He painted everything....even the headliner. It actually came out pretty decent, save for the headliner now resembling the feel of sandpaper, lol.
....i actually dont think i ever really felt my headliner. OH WAIT! when i was playing padidle with a friend. LMAO
i didnt mean paint those things, i meant paint the plastic ****. But i think there is some kind of spray you can put on fabrics, like a dye or something. But id suggest just getting that reapolstered or some seat covers.
a flat-head screw driver three cans off plastics spray paints...piece of sand paper..total cost=30 bucks...tooke me 3-4 hours and painted all silver pieces black and painted gauge cluster trim black as well...just gotta kno where all your trim snaps are..
