Fontana/CA Speedway Tomorrow? 3/7/2009
I was out in the Neon and saw a few Cobalt and Ions but didn't recognize anyone. I have to sort through my pictures, but I think I may have caught a few passes and will try to get those posted up in the next few days. The weather held out pretty good and for Fontana the track was okay and the temps weren't too bad.
I talked to the owner of the car who had an incident and it appears wheel hop took out his trans case. Hopefully it gets taken care of. I couldn't tell what car for sure, but thought from way in the distance a Mustang or possibly black Cobalt was being towed away earlier in the afternoon.
Overall it was pretty busy but I had a good time. They had over 500 cars but kept the track open into the evening to make sure everyone got at least 3 runs in, which was pretty cool. Also for any of the faster cars on here running slicks, I spoke with the manager Beth up at the tower again about slicks. Last summer they were starting to implement a DOT-only slick policy at street legal events but this has been changed. You can run a full racing slick at the track but should drive in the car on street tires and they may inspect the slick at tech.
When they switch over to night racing after the lights get installed they will have to go to a DOT-only rule as well as muffler required. The county has some strict noise laws they must comply with and they can't have the drag-only, "technically" "street legal" full-out drag-only race cars which are the worst noise offenders. That seems pretty reasonable for a street legal event and gives us some time to run current slicks. Also as an update, the lights aren't going to happen this season and with the tight budget she said it would probably be another 2-3 years. Once that does happen, they will be opening the track weekly and probably on a different night from Irwindale.
One other thing for anyone that hasn't heard or doesn't check the schedule, there will be three street legal events in May. I'll post something up if no one else has when we get closer. I will be bringing the Cobalt out to one of them as long as I'm not back over at the overseas sandbox around that time.

Hey, I think I saw that Silver Team Syndicate Cobalt SS running. I tried to give ya a nod, but it was a pretty busy day. I also saw a black ION RL running too.
I didn’t run my ION due to bad MAF Sensor and flex pipe. All should be resolved by the next event.
Also saw some fast SRT-4s. Dang. Great day. 500+ cars sounds right. Saw that other silver cobalt SS wheel hop real bad, bog and eventually come to a stop half way down the track. It was around 4:00pm it seemed.
