Coilover install
Coilover install
So I just bought KW Suspension Variant 2 Coilovers and I keep reading that anyone with basic tools and some patients could install them, so my question is, Is there a howto somewhere? I tried searching but couldn't come up with anything.

thats the one i used for my coilovers, since all of them tend to be pretty similar it should work for the kw ones as well

i just sent back the kw var2 coils i got. the quality is so shitty on them. the "composite plastic height adjuster" is fishy right there. thats among all the other stuff i was that was crappy about them.
i got the var2 here so keep that in mind.
first, i opened the box and the first thing i went for was instructions. i mean i know how to install them and all but i wanted to know about the damper adjusting and setting ride height. but i got nothing no booklets at all in the box.
second, for the money you pay for these coils id figured the front upper strut mounts would come with them. hell if im reusing mounts with 100k miles on them off my car. and from gm they are like 60 or so bux each. more money shell out after the price of the coils.
third, started looking at the front coil setup and i noticed there was no adjument for the damper and the var2s are suppose to have it. same with the rear but there was nothing there either.
fourth, on the fronts the welded on brackets where you bolt everything up look cheap as hell for the "quality" these coils are suppose to be. common now.
fifth, the adjusters to set the ride height are a "composite plastic" not medal. WFT. im not riding are on that ****. plus to keep them tight there is a shitty little allen set screw you tighten against the threads of the coil. that will just screw the threads up over time.
for the money the kw coils cost that should be a super clean quality. hell i could have gotten the b&g coils for a hell of alot less and had a better quality. i called kw this afternoon and brought up my concerns. the dude was speechless and had no answers for me at all. so im sending them back. ill wait for the teins to come out. i called and talked to them today and it shouldnt be long till they are ready for production. im just overall disappointed with the kw coils i really dont know what else to say. as far as im concerned they are JUNK.

The second thing I noticed about the KW's (besides they are ugly as ****) is that they used composite lock collars. I understand the draw behind coilovers, I know that $1000+ isnt cheap to nearly any of us, but in the big world of suspension ALL of these similarly priced coilover kits are either poorly made, made using mediocre components, difficult to adjust(or non adjustable which technically isnt a fault, just something to keep in mind), offer poor ride quality or a combination of the above.
Truly good coilovers are gonna run you north of $2000 all day, and thats without springs usually.
Make sure you make a thread about your experience and findings if you havent already.
