2.2 Auto - Clunk noise in shifter when pressing on brake

Only P, R, N, D work, I and L act the same as D, they will not lock the car into 1-2 and 2-3 gears, and L does not turn TC off.
When you press on the brake, the shifter clunks, something moves inside the shift knob or right below it.
When car is put into Park, the doors do not unlock.
Remote start does not work, when you press Lock->Remote Start, you can hear a click noise from the engine, but it doesn't turn on.

IMO sounds like a Transmission issue, but what could it be? Seems like it's not fully recognizing the gear it's in either, I and L do the same thing as D (1-4+OD). And when put into Park it doesn't unlock the doors, could be tied to why it doesn't Remote start -> not recognizing it's in Park.

It worked fine yesterday?

The clunking is likely the shift interlock, thats what stops you from moving the selector out of park unless your foot is on the brake. It should not be doing anything when not in park so.....guessing its the position sensor (neutral safety switch) on the shifter.

Should not be letting you start it either, something is messed up there. Unless the position sensor is stuck in park all the time? Sounds like warranty time anyways

good thing car has full warranty, even 3yr/36k still

it's gonna suck to have to drive it like this all week, isn't even remotely fun. hopefully it keeps starting though, i'd like to make my friday appt, not have an emergency monday appt ><

Hi, shawn672

I have exactly the same issue with my cobalt. How did you solve the problem?
Thanks

Hittingthe brake releases the neutral safety switch. Thats what youre hearing.
