People using slicks on TCs

What size tires are you using? I'm gonna put either slicks or drag radials on my TC. Just wondering what sizes can be used.

Mickey thompson makes a DR in a 245/ 40/ 18 that will fit. Why do you want slicks or DRs?

Slicks are overkill unless you are making 500+ whp

DR's will get you more then enough traction at the strip.

But I would also like to ask why you want them....you sig does not include anything that would require them to get the best possible time.

Speaking of tires, I was looking to get either the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec's or the Eagle F1 GS-D3's up front...but I don't really care to replace the rears yet as they are still full of tread. Anyone have any experience only swapping out the fronts for a more aggressive DR type tire while leaving the stock Conti's out back? I would replace the Conti's completely once the first rotation was due but in the mean time I think it would save money to only do the fronts...but if this is going to cause issues or a sloppy ride then I'll say **** it and replace them all at once.

My car is going into the shop on the 4th for methanol injection and a tune. Should be well over 300 WHP.

Sounds good, but Slicks are still total overkill.....even the DR's wont improve times much....I would stick with the stock tires for a while....drop the front tire pressure, raise the rear tire pressure and you should be fine.

Yea I'm def not going with slicks, but I wanted the opinions of people who are using them. If I use the launch control I can feel the computer cutting power to my engine to keep my tires from breaking loose and all i have is a CAI. From what i heard from people who have tuned their cars, traction is there biggest problem and I'm gonna have even more problems with methanol. I have the money so why not get some drag radials?

By all means get them if you would like.....they certainly wont hurt acceleration!

They will however cause a reduction in its cornering ability. What I would do in your situation is get 2 extra rims and put on some serious drag radials. When you go to the track swap those on and when you are around town use the stockers.

P.S. Launch Control is terrible at the track...do not use it

That's the plan. I working on getting a set of two wheels right now from a guy on this site. I only went to the track once with my car. the launch control seemed to help my launch but i missed a shift so my time was shitty anyway.

You can certainly try it with the launch control... Then try it by taking the engine up to about 2k-2500. Floor it and feather the clutch. Something along that line. You'll really launch like you mean it then.
