Weird sound while shifting and stopping?

Has anyone else noticed that if you rev it to about 5000+ RPM in 1st gear and then while you let off the throttle, clutch out, and shift to 2nd, there's a weird sound coming from the front. I want to say that it is the turbo spooling down but it sounds like mechanical parts moving around. Is this normal? I have not done a NLS.

Probably don't want to rise first that far. 3k should be plenty.

The only sound I hear in that case (at least that I know of) is the BPV if I don't rev-match correctly. I know sounds can be tough to describe, but based on your description, I'm not even too sure what I should be listening for if I give this a shot on the way home .

get a K&N drop in filter for $20-$40 at any local auto parts store and then u will hear it clearly and know if that's the noise your hearing or it's something else that might be a problem

Is it in any way similar to the high-pitched noise and what sounds to be something opening/closing when you turn the car off? Every time I shut off the car I hear it, and it's definitely coming from under the hood...almost like a door of some sort is opening then closing with the time in between being about 3 seconds.

I wouldn't use the K&N filter because it lets dirt through the media. This dirt can eventually pit and damage the turbocharger impeller.

Then I think I know what you're talking about, but this is right up there on my list with the other post here (and previous) on what exactly is making the noise when the clutch engages. I've had others listen to both noises and we're all in the same boat, scratching our heads and sayin' "I dunno" . To me it sounds like it's coming from the right-hand side where the turbo is but then again I park in my garage so it could be reverb...

All you're hearing there is the relays switching off after you turn off your car, for the ECU, autoheadlights, fuel pump, etc. Don't worry. Nothing's wrong.

Try this: Have your hood open, turn the key to the on postion (you don't even need to start it), and then turn it back to off and look under the hood. You'll hear a noise coming from the fuel pressure regulator and the area near the fuse box.

That would make sense, and I had considered it being related to electrical, but what kept getting me was that I'd never heard it on my 2.2. I'm assuming the regulator in the LNF is different from that of the 2.2 which would explain things, thanks for clearing it up, and I'll give that a try .

Alrite, enough of me hijacking this thread (I seriously thought it might be the same thing, I swear ) and I'll drive the ***** off my car on the way home to see if I hear what you're describing .

Well when you turn off your car, the throttle butterfly assemble re hones its self to zero twice. This is normal. Then there is the electrical fuel pump also that turns on but should turn off shortly after you turn your car to the 1st click in the ignition.

If you look around in the f.a.q. for the lnf you might find any questions you have answered.

Is there a possibility it could be the "no-lift shift" feature engaging, or anything related to it?

You all seem to be talking about different issues. I complained to the dealer about a clunk type noise when the clusch was depressed or let off when you were short shifting at low revs (fuel economy mode). GM said it was normal an caused by the normal slop in the drive train when the engine was allowed to go back to a no load position. The fact is that when you shift in hard acceleration the engin does not have time to move back to the idle position. Open the hood and rev the motor, you will see this movment. The motor mounts are to soft. They let the engine move to far. This is a big issue with these hopped up cars. The SS/SC and TC uses the same motor mounts as the standard engine. Here is a web site for buying them for $25.00 http://www.newedgeperformance.com/in...ROD&ProdID=457
