2006 cobalt SS/SC

I hit a bump and its now squeeking on front drivers side, i have inspected both and the cover (that plastic slinky thingy ) goes up and down (passenger) and the driver where i hit the thing is all the way stuck down and squished, now does that mean i have to change my entire shock /strut or its just my bump stock that i s squised and cracked and rubbing really hard and squeeking.

help
