non-retard question about night shades

so ive had my lights smoked for like 6 months, and i guess they wear off cuz they use to be blacked out now you can see in them easily.. my question is, do I have to sand the lights again before i put another coat on or can I just spray it on how it is (on top of clear coat)

ok.. what are you trying to do? If you respray them with NS they will become darker and possibly crack the lense... NS is a Polycarbonate dye... Its not paint, It melts the plastic/lexan and thats how it bonds. If your clear is messed up, just scuff it up and re clear

You should always sand it down to get that clear coat off so you can repaint paint doesn't stick to well on clear.

No your not sanding the night shades of your juts getting below the clear coat to spray again. Im not saying go with a low grit sandpaper and go to town get something very smooth and go from there. You will know once you have passed the clear. And besides if you really wanted to take off the night shades and put night shades on to make it darker just take a bowl put some acetone in it and dip your lense in for 10 sec and no more night shades. But I will say that your plastic will haze a little bit but goes away after you spray it again. ****DON"T DO THIS IF YOU PLAN ON NOT PUTTING NIGHT SHADES BACK ON**** Reason I know this is when I was spraying one of the tails i messed up on the clear and it bubbled up so I took some acetone and started over but acetone will eat some of your plastic so if you don't put the night shades back on you will have a light white film over your light that you will have to scratch off. I know it sucks but its life.

let me rephrase this. when i first tinted my tails they were pitch black, now like 6 months later they started to fade away, so i can see the red inside the lights. I want to spray more on to make it pitch black again. so you cant spray VHT ontop of clear coat? im starting to think my clear coats already came off anyways since the VHT is fading (I think its fading cuz i cleaned the tails with windex a few times and that can probably dissolve it)

Well the best thing to tell you is try it and if it doesn't come off your good. Does it still have the shiny look to it? If not then majority of your clear is gone.

just put down the 1st coat, it looked a little rough at first but its smoothing down over time

finished up everything, looked rough at first but after i put down 3 clear coats is smooth now and looks great, so if anyones looking to take off there clear coat use windex i found the ammonia dissolves clear.
