thermostat issue

ok so sometimes my car goes all the way up to 220 before the fans kick on when im at a stop or idling and then it brngs it back down to 190 and it wont move from there but any ideas why this is happning. this is also part of the reason why im hesitant on getting a turbocharger do to the heat increase. any help is much appreciated.

Maybe the low speed fan fuse/relay is out, causing the fan to not kick on until 220, when the high speed fan maybe kicks on. I think the low speed fan usually kicks in at like 205 or so, so if it goes up to 220 before falling again that might explain it.

Just to be sure, I'd check your coolant level too.
