sorry man this forum gets 100 questions like this a day and its all been asked a million times befor

but to answer your question the stock SS/SC exhaust is 2.5 up untill the rear axle and then goes down to a 2.25 so if your just replacing the muffler you want a 2.25 sized muffler. the vendor Over the top performance sells pre bent 2.5 in pipe to replace the 2.25in sec they sell it with and with out a muffler and the prices arent that bad ether but im sure any exhaust shop could do the same thing for you

Hi all,

Noob here- 1st post.

I have a '09 SS. I'm looking to cut in a new muffler so I took a set of calipers to the pipe entering and exiting the muffler and got readings of 2.5" - 2.6" around the pipe. Where does the exhaust system drop to 2.25"?

Thanks,
Chevy2

Did you measure the inside? Pipes are measured by ID, not OD.

THe LNF's do not have a drop to 2.25...Thats for the older LSJ's.

Factory is mandrel bent 2.5 from the CAT back (very nice for a stock setup). The major restriction in the exhaust is the downpipe, it has 2 converters, and a nice crimp press near the 02 sensor. Biggest gains in the engine for performance are tune and new downpipe.

boosted4dr,

Thanks, that's what I measured and that's what I thought, for the SS. I'm square. Thanks also for the heads up on the downpipe.
