08-09 LNF Ratteling Down Pipe/Exhaust FIX
I posted a thread the other day about having a squeaking noise coming from under my car and couldn't figure it out, but i finally got it up on a lift. Turns out 2 things with the exhaust system were causing problems.
1.) The heat shielding under the car sits way too close to the exhaust and with an aftermarket down pipe, the different weight and different size on the flex portion of the pipe cause it to move more than usual (stock).
THE FIX: Used a metal bar, and pushed upward and outward off of the side of the down pipe and exhaust to bend the heat shield as far away from the down pipe as possible and then some how the flex section had a slight bend in that so straightened that out.
2.) THE MAIN PROBLEM!!!!! The car comes with the rubber grommets that hold the exhaust in place and allow the exhaust to move so it does not cause vibrations in the car. Well over time the weight and heat of the exhaust put more stress on the rubber hanger towards the back of the exhaust right before the bend. There are 2 hangers 1 welded to the car and 1 welded to the exhaust pipe. The rubber hanger has a very thin piece of rubber in between to stop them from touching but it does not work very well and the 2 steel hanger bars clank together.
THE FIX: Cut a piece of rubber (I used a Piece of MUD TIRE) the width of the hanger and about 3/4 of an inch long. Use a metal bar to pull down on the exhaust and stretch out the hanger (you have to pull kind of hard the rubber is pretty strong) and push the piece of rubber you previously cut and put it between the 2 pieces of metal inside of the rubber hanger. When you let up on the exhaust the hanger will shrink back down and hold the piece of rubber very snug and does not any longer allow the 2 hanger bars to touch.
3.) Start the car and make sure no more squeaking or annoying exhaust noises and your finished! Message me if you have any questions.
