Some questions about purchasing a Cobalt SS/SC
Hey guys, my name is Mike and I'm from Long Island. I dont have a Cobalt yet... hense lies the problem lol.
I am waiting on an insurance settlement from an accident in 04. (DWI driver totaled my truck, I fractured my sternum)
Anyway, I have been obsessed with the cobalt SS ever since it came out, and I definitely plan on buying one.
My questions are:
1) Would I be happy with an 05? Reason I ask is that I don't know how much money I will be getting... I hope i can at least get enough to buy an 05 SS.
2) What are the problems reguarding the 05s? I understand that it is a first year car and will always have its problems... anything big though?
3) What kind of used pricing will I find?
4)Is buying these cars used a smart idea? I dunno about driving a car that someone else broke in...
5) Any 19 year olds driving a cobalt ss with a clean driving record, around how much are you paying for insurance?
6) G85 Sports package... how necassary is this? Again, I will def go for this if I can afford it, but im going on worst case scenario here.

Just as happy with an 06 i would imange.

Trim around the sunroof button. Inserts peeling on the doors. Gear map on the shifter comming off. All but the gear map have bulletins on them i believe.

If you can get it. Get it. The seats are worth it. Only real regrat I have about my car

1) I have an 05 SS/sc and I love it to death, it does have some issues but it will definatly make you happy.
2) Again my car is an 05 and does have some first year bugs, it has little defects like the interior trim cups as well as the wheel paint but nothin major or mechanical ( plus I think all of the 06's have the same problems)
3) It depends I see a lot of poeple not gettin how much they want for the car so you could be in luck
4) It depends again on who drove it first I am 19 but its my commuter car 90% of my miles are easy highway miles and 1000+ mile long roadtrips ( the other 10% I beat the ***** out of it)
5) Im 19 in ny and the insuracnce company has me listed with a multi car discount so I cant help you there but when added the car my insurance went down from when I just had a jeep if that helps at all
6) G85 Sports package is a must I am not spending over 2k to do my own G85 because it wasnt available when I purchased my car but I want to start autocrossing so it is a must for me

well i can only answer 2 of these questions since i got an 06 not an 05 but....

im 20 and have a clean record, im paying $128 a month on my own policy with just my car
6) G85 Sports package... how necassary is this?
i would definately get it. i absolutely love the seats, even the hater honda boys have complimented em(thats about the only thing ha) and i just think any performance car needs a lsd, if you got 2 axle shafts why not use em.

Im getting my cobalt in a few days, 06 sssc, and its costing me 455/month. Theres no way a 19 year old in canada will get cheaper then 400 a month on that car unless theres something not right. The other models yes, but with the SC, no.

Are the provinces that different because I'm in ontario, and no one 24 or under will get insured on an sssc for under 400 a month, 25 yes, but below that no... Some insurance companies quoted me at over 600 a month until I found mine through a friend.

6) G85 Sports package... how necassary is this? i dont have the g85 package. ive heard/read that the factory LSD unit isnt a true 50/50 split. its more like a 70/30. i just put $380 into suspension work and i have no wheel hop now. so if ur getting the option just for the seats then fine. if u dont like the seats, then u can control the wheel hop as i have.

My insurance company told me that price wise it did not matter which cobalt you got 2dr, 4dr, LS, SS, whatever they would all cost the same.......maybe that was just for me though I pay $120/mth. I do know someone under 25 paying under $400/mth insurance.

Hey Mike. I'm in East Northport. Thanks for the offer, I def wanna come check it out one weekend. Where on DPA do you meet? I'm pretty familiar with the area. Anyway, I hope to be getting a Cobalt soon and will have to start going there regularly. How old are you? I have some family in Bay shore. Thanks for your help.

Obviously a car with 140 hp compared to a car with 205 hp, you will pay higher for the 205. Not sure how your insurance company gets away with that, i wouldnt complain though.
