help...i don't know whats wrong with my paint
alright i am beyond frustrated at this point, i began painting my rims since they were chipping away already, so i decided to go all black on them so i decided to do them myself, i did the first three rims with relative ease, i sanded them, washed, primed, painted, and clear coated them with no problems, now that i get to the fourth, it all goes well but once i apply the clear coat, the paint starts cracking and bubbling in certain spots, i have redone this rim 3 times (once i waited overnight for the paint to dry before i applied the clearcoat, the second time i did it about half an hour after my last paint coat, and the third i did it outdoors in the sun) here's an exmple of what i mean....

ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...

u need to do more prep work when i did mine we used a cleaner, then scuffed them up then washed them, then sanded them then we primed and painted then cleared, it could also b u have a on deodrant that has something in it that makes the paint fisheye i know it sounds crazy but i run a body shop lata
thanks, i thought i could get away with sanding them and still leave on the original primer on there, but i just finished sanding the hell out of it, so now the rim is super shiny and ready for the primer, hopefully things will go smooth today...also another question i had, do i do the whole priming, painting, and clearcoating all within the same day, or can i wait for my paint to dry at least overnight until i add the clearcoat?
The paint is lifting because of contamination. First spray off the rims with some brake cleaner, this will remove all of the residue brake dust. Next come back with a degreaser and really scrub. Rinse. Now clean with a mild detergent to remove any dirt. Rinse. Now wet sand with 600 wet grit. Wait for the rim to dry after wet sanding. If you see any shiny spots, re-sand those. Paint will not stick to shiny parts. Even metal should appear dull. Now re wash with a mild detergent. Dry with blow gun and double check for shiny spots. You are now ready to paint.
i clearcoated the other three rims with no problem, and i have used the same primer, paint, and clearcoat for all 4 rims, but oh well...slowswap thanks for that tip on the brake cleaner, i actually had some laying around...the rim is drying as we speak and it's looking pretty good...thanks to all
