You should be OK if you go with the GM Stage kit. You could replace the Head Gasket anyway, just to be safe. 60,000 miles isn't that much on an ecotec IMO.

Idk much about the stage kits though, so you may want another opinion

i want atleast 15-17 lbs of boost out of my stock s/c is this possible w/o blowing up the s/c or motor or am just being unrealistic?

i generally want 250-260hp outta my stock Cobalt w/o any gay issues

I don't have 3k to spend on a twin charged kit or i would also not really got much cash for clutch upgrade so i kinda have some limits

Go with the ottp stage 1 or zzp stage 3. They are pretty much the same thing as far as pulley and injectors go.

stage 2 with intake and exhaust and some traction mods will get you in your 250-260hp range

i put gm stage 2 on at 35k..have 60k now and its all good. You may need to replace the super charger coupler sooner (its cheap) but other then that you should be fine.

I just want to make sure know one believes this statement. Don't get the wrong idea. Stage 2 is good, but you will not be in the 250-260hp range. I had stage 2, exhaust, intake and I had more like 230whp. Which is about right. So don't expect to have 250whp with just that.

Also traction mods do not = whp...

SSchargedSS if you're making 250whp with stage 2 you better post a dyno sheet, because no one believes you.

I doubt thats what the OP ment.

Just clarifying.

If you've maintained your car over time and haven't beaten it mercilessly, then you should be ok.

The SC was made to produce up to 245hp under warranty, but I'm guessing your 05 with 60k is now out of the warranty period.

So as long as you've taken care of your car (remember, regarding things mechanical "time does NOT heal all wounds") then I'd say go for it.

Why can't you push 250 on Stage 2?

Hey Joemaster you are going down the right path. Your best option for the car is going to be the following. 60lb injectors, 2.8 pulley and hub, methanol injection, cxracing heat exchanger, interceptor to monitor things, wideband to monitor afr, and a tune from me. Your in chicago so thats not to far away at all. The tune is key man, if you get a tune from me you will have a very solid, very reliable, very powerful car. I can guarantee you the power you want with those mods. Easy 260whp, I could push it to 270 no problem also.

Also, this will not wear the engine down any faster. These ecotecs last a long time man, you can beat the **** out of them and as long as they are properly setup and tuned they will last. If you want to know my rates etc, pm me.

I believe it, I was just saying the stage 2 tune leaves a fair amount of power to be desired on the table as opposed to a custom tune

The gm stage 2 tunes run extremely rich and don't run enough timing. If you increase the timing and lean them out a decent amount of power can be had, especially once you straighten out the torque reductions / boost reductions and all that stuff. But as far as the motor suffering and all of that, any additional stress or strain on a motor will wear it out quicker, however I have and know others who have ran extremely small pulleys, with proper cooling mods, for over 50k miles and have no issues. It really is all in the tune and how hard you beat on it.

If you don't need to, don't beat the **** outta the car and do back to back to back pulls. Those are the hardest on the car, the iat2's just get way to far outta hand.

I have a 2004 redline with 136,+++ miles. It has been staged since it had about 50,000 miles. My mods are K&N cold air intake, 2.85 pullie, 7200 rpm, sms big bore, 42lb injectors, stage 2 belt, 1 step colder plugs, lightning heat exchange custom tune (Thanks Fullthrottle) and a thermal muffler. And the only problem I have had is taking the smile of my face. These LSJ engines are very well built. Just do the regular maintance like change the oil every 3000 miles and you shoul be fine. I am on my 3rd stock clutch. First one lasted 50,000 miles second one lasted 70,000 then went out. Had the oringinal throw out bearing (got 120,000 miles out of it). Mind you I have not had any slippage since the new clutch, presure plate, flywheel and throwout bearing have been installed. Love your car like when you first bought it. Respect it by maintaing it. Admire it for how long it will last. This is what has worked with me and my 2004 redline. I took delivery of the car on 10/31/2004. The car had 3 miles on it.
