Air/Fuel Gauge install question

I have an Autometer ATM-4375 Air/Fuel gauge that I would like to isntall on a Cobalt SS. Is the O2 sensor on this car narrow-band or wide-band? Also, where would I locate the wire to splice into for installation of this gauge? Any information would be a very big help.

Look, this gauge is one that I already have and I would really rather not buy a new one. If you are telling me that it will not work on this car, then that is fine and I appreciate the help. If it just doesn't suit your tastes, then that is up to you, however you are not really helping me out at all.

I am by no means a car tuning expert. Any information to help answer my question would be highly appreciated.

From Selfs second post it would lead my to believe that he is telling me the car is wideband, but I would like to make certain before I spend any more money than necesary that the narrow-band gauge I have will not work.

Thank you in advance.

The car has a narrowband sensor in it. You will need to install an o2 bung for a wideband meter. But the wideband is really the way to go for proper and efficent tuning.

The gauge you currently have (narrowband) will work on your car. However you have to define "work". The narrowband 02 sensor on a car is designed to read stoich (14.7:1) and once you get away from that (lean or rich) the narrowband sensor's accuracy falls way off. Since your trying to achieve A/F ratios around 12:1 the narrowband is not going to be much help to you. Since it only reads on a 0-1V scale the gauge will simply bounce around and not tell you much (i.e. "light show"). The wide band has a 0-5V scale making it much more accurate. If you are looking for a gauge I would suggest getting an AEM Wideband. It is cheap by wideband standards ($275) but it performs very well and I use it on my car.

Thank you for the help with clearing that up. The wideband definately looks like something that will be in my future. However, since I already have the narrowband gauge, I would like to hook it up (even if it is mainly for show).

Does anyone know where I can locate the wires to tap in to?

Again, thank you for all of the help thus far.

The O2 Sensor or the ECU would be where to start..

do you have to go to the o2 sensor or can you just wire it to a wire from the computer in the engine bay?

use the upper o2 sensor and splice into the purlpe with the white strip right after the connector. You have to manipulate in a tight space to get it done, but it is really easy to get in there with patience. Good luck

so you have to get a new o2 sensor? theres no other way to install one?

from what i understand, the car has a narrow band sensor. and that will work with an auto meter gauge, but it wont be as accurate as a widebind, but i dont have to get that if i dont want to. i really just want the gauge for the light. so all i have to do is wire it?
