Clutch install
Clutch install
So after quite a bit of tweaking, my trifecta tune is now powerful enough so that if I turn on the tune, and floor it in fifth, the stock clutch can no longer hold the power - at all. Guess its time to install that hypersingle I've had sitting on the shelf.
Question for those that have done it:
Any tips? Ill be following the instructions here: http://www.gmperformancedivision.com...SJ_Chap5&6.pdf (obviously modifying the steps for the LNF instead of the LSJ)
Is it absolutely necessary to completely remove the transmission and disconnect the clutch hydraulics? My old Saturn S-series (last FWD car I did a clutch in, everything else has been RWD) you could kinda manhandle the transmission into the wheel well which would give you just enough room to change the clutch without the need to remove the subframe (just had to loosen it). Id rather avoid having to bleed the clutch.
Is an alignment necessary afterward? I would think so, since you are dismounting the steering rack and removing the subframe completely.. but maybe all that goes back together without changing the alignment..

i can't even imagine the pain in the ass this is please if you do it take LOTS of pics and make a how to it would be much appriciated after seeing what a shop did to my friends hyundai when they put his new clutch in i don't wanna take it anywhere.
its a lot of work, not gonna lie. just follow the gm build book and you will do just fine. you cant get a better right up then that
yeah everything has to come out and you will need to bleed the system. and like they said earlier replace the TOB/slave cylinder. you dont want to go through all this again to replace it later.

Truth...any tune can slip the clutch in 5th. It's just a ton of torque and the gearing is to wide to do anything with it. I've slipped it in 4th and 5th just rolling on to boost, but it won't slip at higher rpms or if you don't give it the full 22 pounds.
Basically, you don't need a clutch unless you make a habit of doing 5th gear pulls from 3k rpm. You can have trifecta adjust torque management in 5th if you don't want to worry about slipping the clutch when you floor it.
