Question Strange wire in my Cobalt SS....any clue?

So i just bought an 06 SS a few weeks ago and I love it. For the past 2 weeks i've been searching for a trunk release button...finaly found that it was in the little storage bin next to the steering wheel....well, where it was SUPPOSED to be. The button is gone, and in the bin, is a wire that comes out from under the dash. I have no idea what this wire is for. It extends out about 4-5 feet and has a small connector on the end. What this connection sort of looks like, is a small fan connector, like you would see in a computer....thats the only way I can describe it. I thought maybe it was where the scan tool plugs in, but why would they bunch up 5 feet of wire into the storage bin? I am thinking this is something aftermarket but I have no clue, and the dealership is clueless. Any of you seen anything like this? Maybe its something common and im an idiot for not knowing what it is, but any help would be appreciated......p.s. sorry for the crappy photo...

I think the button is supposed to go on the end of that... It would explain why its missing. I think the trunk is supposed to pop when the 2 wires are shorted.

I don't think thats the plug for your trunk release, the factory connector would definitly not have that much wire on it.

That's the self destruct button for your car. My car pushed its own button today. I wish it would have exploded in a fire ball of greatness.

it looks like my connection to my N2MB WOT BOX/NLS. it could of been on the vehicle prior, box was removed, and the wires were set back to stock but they just never removed the wires they ran for the wot box/nls feel me? they just left it there to be ******** and said **** it too much trouble to unwire it lol.

Ok, so tried shorting the two wires to see if the trunk popped...nothing. So right above the storage bin is the fog light button and the dash dimmer. When I follow the wire it feels like it is bundled together with the wires coming off of those other two dials...

P.s. My ***** is battery powered

All my "bass control knobs" have looked like a phone jack plug. Does this?

The photo is crappy .

Hard to tell from such a blurry photo but its definatly not the truck release OR a from the WOT box. Only way to tell is to follow it, which shouldn't be hard, or asking the previous owner. I would follow it regardless of contacting the previous owner or not so you know for sure.

Wow that sucks... My buddy has a similar connector on the back of his guages although his has 4 wires but it is about that small.

You should pop our the panel and see where it leads, also if your button/connector for trunk button is hanging there.

All bass knobs I have seen are either rj45 or rj11.
Maybe a guage or WOT box of some sort. Looks like a power wire of sorts

that definately not a stock wire... so could be for a multitude of things. Command starter perhaps?
