Pontiac G5: More standard horsepower than Cobalt...

Hey guys. I just got my information on the Pontiac G5(I work at a dealership). The standard G5 coupe comes with a 148 hp (152ft tq)2.2, 5-speed, plus some other goodies which I can list if people would like. The G5 GT coupe has a standard 173hp(163ft tq) 2.4. Compared to the base Cobalt, and the 2.4SS, it doesn't surprise me that they give a couple more horsepower to Pontiac to keep it the more "performance" division of GM. Base price of the G5 coupe is $14,995.00, and the starting MSRP of the G5 GT is $17,795.00. Interesting. What do you guys think?

Also, here are the colors:
1.Fusion Orange Metallic
2.Black
3.Victory Red
4.Competition Yellow
5.Summit White
6.Titanium Metallic
7.Blue Streak Metallic
8.Performance Red Tint Coat
9.Nitrous Blue

I serioulsy doubt this. It's called economy of scale. It would cost GM more to have just the G5 have a few more hp. GM does not typically operate this way, the more thye make the same the cheaper it is.

07 Cobalts are likley the same--I'll bet money

I think we simply haven't seen the numbers for the 2007 Cobalts yet. Or have we?

My guess is the '07 cobalt will have those numbers as well. Though the gains are so small I wonder if they actually changed anything at all or if they just decided to be less conservative with the #'s.

I'm keeping the G5 GT as 2nd choice option, it all depends on who will give me the best deal when it comes time to buy at the end of the year. I like the pontiac nose slightly better, but I like the cobalt coupe's tail a LOT better.

The only real changes I see are that the pontiac versions have better standard equipment options. Such as power windows/locks etc. on their base model, but really I could care less about those things. :P

Possibly, I haven't received my 2007 Cobalt information yet, so it's very likely that the numbers will be the same. Another interesting note, the gas mileage ratings are identical on the G5 between the 2.2 and the 2.4. I like the looks, and the colors are cool too-but I'll have to see it in person first.

I much prefer the tails of the cobalt, but I also like my grill a lot more too, I would have gotten a cobalt but I got a better deal on the g5 gt

I seen a magazine saying Gm was be conservative with numbers(which we know) that the cobalt ss/na is 177hp they also said that toyota and honda overinflate ther numbers be deriving their numbers from the flywheel

I would venture a guess that GM didn't change a thing with the engines for either the G5 or '07 Cobalt. They're just upping the printed power level for all the magazines and paper drag racers. We all know that the numbers given out from the factory are fudged by as much as 10% (in the case of the SS/SC dynoing at 220+ hp). GM probably redid their math with the new SAE horsepower ratings.

They're identical on the Cobalt, too.

It makes no sense that two cars that are mechanically the exact same and are built on the same line at the same plant will have different power ratings for the same engine.

In other words, expect the Cobalt to get the boost too.

The Pursuit/G5's and the Cobalts run down the same line in Lordstown

The 07 Cobalt's should have all the same mechaincal revisions . Since the G5 is all new in the US , thats why ur hearing about all the little mechaincal differences via the G5 instead of the Cobalts . You heard about all the interior updates from the G5 , before they said a word about the Cobalts actually getting the same update too

Bad06SS - Whats with the blue's . Nitrous blue= Lazer , Bluestreak= Pace blue ??

The Cobalt and G5 are built in Lordstown Ohio which was the same plant that built the Cavalier/Sunfire.

No Delta platform cars are built in Canada.

Well, laser blue is gone, and nitrous blue doesn't look anything like it. Nitrous blue (atleast in the picture) looks like a cross between the arrival blue, and the impulse blue from the GTO, I think it looks cool! Pace blue should be similar to nitrous blue, meaning the lighter shade. Bluestreak is a dark blue, close to lazer blue, but not so purple. Reminds me of the midnight blue metallic from the f-body's. Both the G5 and the Cobalt should each have two blues, a light one and a dark one.

Mike, with all due respect, your information is incorrect. There is only one GM plant in North America building the G5 and it's in Lordstown. Go look at the window sticker from your car, it will say Lordstown just like mine and every other Cobalt/Pursuit ever built.

If for some reason you don't believe me, here's the link to the GM Canada corporate website. On this link, you will see what vehicles are built in Canada by clicking in the left column. Oshawa does have several quality awards but they don't build G5.

I have the streak blue, its' a great color but sometimes if the sun is just right,it looks to have a touch of purple,on a sise note I was wondering for those who want white faced guages if the one from the G5 would work?
