Injen Intake and Magnaflow Installed on 2.4

Hey guys and gals,

Last weekend I decided to get exhaust. Instead of spending $600+ on cat-back I just went with a universal Magnaflow muffler. I kept the stock exhaust tip. The muffler sounded AWESOME! Nice deep rumble at idle and very low, mellow tone until about 3k rpm's. WOT was pretty loud, but not ricey at all.

Then I got my Injen Intake from TTR and threw it on. Man, now my car is loud as ****. The intake must have amplified the exhaust note. I can hear the intake slightly, but the exhaust is also louder than a motherf***er now.

I might go back and add another resonator before the stock one, but all in all I do like the sound of everything and definitly notice some power gains. I would recommend the magnaflow for the 2.4 anyday if you want a nice mellow tone. If you do add intake it will make it alot louder though.

Oh yeah, I did all of this for $383.00!

I am not sure of what to add next, any ideas? I will go f/i before the end of the year.

I would suggest a header or the GMPP exhaust manifold... helps manage airflow even better.

Also, the DC Sports strut bar is a very good investment. Prices are still decent on these right now... so get one soon!

There's a definate difference with the full intake/manifold/exhaust done... no concrete numbers as of yet (haven't made it to the track)... but you can't go wrong with improving airflow.

So you kept the 2.25" rear section and just replaced the stock muffler with a straight through performance Magnaflow? Nothing wrong with that. Glad you're enjoying it man! Do you think there will be room for a second resonator down there though? I didn't see a ton of room when I was checking it out...

Airflow is a good suggestion, but if you are planning on F/I you might also want to start looking at upgrading your stock engine and tranny mounts. The driveline is a weak link, but stiffening it up is going to mean more noise and vibrations in the cabin. But it sounds like your new exhaust might drone it out anyways

I was looking at the piping while we had the car on the rack and it looks like the diameter is 2.25 all the way except for after the resonator which is 2.5 for about a foot.

Maybe SilverStreak can verify for us since his exhaust is laying on his garage floor? I've done some measuring too, and I could have sworn it was 2.5 up to a reducer just before the rear axle. My exhaust guy plans to cut it off just before that point and continue 2.5 all the way. The resonator should be a 2.5 perforated core as well.

Yeah I was under the same impression. Maybe someone can clear it up. But I figure that I will keep it stock since it is only a 4 cylinder.

I didn't want to start another thread but I have a question. When I installed the Injen intake there was a cyclindrical rubber spacer about an inch or two long with threaded ends on it. The directions say to install it in the pre-drilled hole to act as a spacer. I never found the pre-drilled hole and just left it off.

Is this piece necessary?

Did anyone else figure out where to put it?

That would explain it. It is one of the first steps on the instructions so I assumed it would be for the SRI and CAI.

Yeah I spent like 15 minutes thinking I was missing something incredibly obvious.

My apologies bro, if you are talking about the stock downpipe then you are correct. It may even be as small as 2" in some places, particularly before the cat. Looks like our stock exhaust is not nearly as effective as I thought it was. Got my 2.5" axleback done today, and I'm very happy with it but I'll be looking at a custom downpipe and middle section next I guess.
