300zx turbos
300zx turbos
i bought a 300z today really cheap to part it out (and get the turbo off of) does anyone know if the turbos on the '88 model are any good? i'm thinking about possibly going back to the m62 and twincharging. i figured since it was enough to run a 6 cylinder it should be good, but if not i'll probably just pull the drivetrain and sell it to someone and junk the rest of the car.
but the main Q is if the turbos are worth a damn or not....

i don't see the point in using a 300zx turbo for a twincharged cobalt. the whole idea of twincharging is to use a large turbo that under normal circumstaces would take a while to spool. that way the supercharger provides adequate boost until the turbo kicks in and you go rocketing down the track.
Those turbos are going to need to be rebuilt if they are stock. Those turbos are probably real small anyways and wouldn't be efficient enough for a single or twin charged application.
..... they arent that slow either. mind me asking how much you bought it for?
btw, to confirm your question, the turbos are pretty lame on those cars. old and small.
I believe the stock turbo is a T25, at least thats what comes on the 90 models and newer (twin turbos). They are quite small.
If the car is in running condition, and the body is junk, Id keep it, and give it a good tune up and detail job. There are a lot of Nissian Z enthusiasts out there, so you could probably sell it for a good chunk more than your initial investment as long as its not that big of a piece of ****.
Just change all the fluids, (motor, tranny, rear, etc.) get some plugs, and run a few bottles of injector cleaner through the system. (I believe the generation of Z you have now had bad wiring for the injectors, or poor injectors that could cause engine fires.)
BTW, is it standard or automatic?
