top speed.
At least on the Cavalier it was some what honest. Showed 110 and shut off after 107.
The fastest I've gotten the Cobalt up to is still 120. Dont have the ***** to go any faster.

Motor Trend I believe had one up to 140. I was told by a service manager who I went to school with and have known for many years that the SS is Governed at 147. I have no reason to dought him.
HEY Cobaltss313, Where are you in Pittsburgh? Theres a great car cruise in Irwin off the pike, anywhere from 50 to 200 cars show up on Saturday afternoons. Come out and see us if you can. Look for the only Cobalt SS, that would be me.
It should stop in the 140's but if you ever find out your an idiot for going that fast unless it was at a track. Dont risk killing yourself or someone else to see how fast your car can go on the highway.

Someone from Chevy was quoted on this on a website last year (don't remember where I saw it).

I just hit 130 this afternoon and the car was pulling like mad, I can definitely put this to the test in the near future. I didn't hit 5th gear until 100.
I never heard of Arodynamic limited, sounds rediculous, please explain. ????????

My understanding is that all GM cars and trucks are governed. Their set usually higher than most people drive but it is there. Any GM service people here, Can you confirm?
Here's the link where I found the info.

And here's is the quoted text "And what about the performance? According to Chevrolet Cobalt marketing manager Jeff Haag, the SS Supercharged does 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and runs the quarter mile in an impressive 14.9 seconds. What's more, Haag says the SS Supercharged isn't required to have a speed limiter because the car comes equipped with Z-rated tires, allowing a top speed of 143 mph."
I don't belive that corvettes are governed.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
And to explain the top speed being drag limited,
A drag-limited car reaches its top speed prior to its maximum engine speed in top gear. In a drag-limited car, the engine reaches a point in its rpm range where it cannot produce enough power to overcome aerodynamic drag.

I had it in 4th at 120-ish racing a riced out cavilier (all primer and a big hood scoop
I just made a big road trip from Florida to Indiana and back again. It's crazy how many people I came across that wanted to race me on that trip, including an old dude with a ZZ-Top beard in a C6 Corvette. I passed that one up...
Corvette C5 1997 through 2004, do not know about the new C6 are limited to 175 MPH via the PCM (powertrain control module), but stock vettes drag limited to 172 MPH coupe, which has the lowest drag, that means that to go any faster you need more than 350HP. Z06 has a top speed of 168 MPH higher drag because of hardtop shape, 405 HP (more), but taller gears in the transmision. I had my SS up to 130 ish. No limiter there, maybe we are limited to 160 something MPH but need more HP to get there.
cobalt will probably hit around 150 but not much more unless the revlimiter is increased. the reason y it will only hit it imo is due to its high final drive ratio, think of big bad v8's you change the final drive gearing from say 3.23:1 to 3.73:1 you get increased acceleration but you lose top speed. and the cobalts fdr is 4.05:1 which is high, and its for acceleration, typically fwd cars have high fdr's usualy 3.8 something:1 so it can accelerate quicker. only way to get faster than 150 is like i said increase the rev limiter and it will increase top seed in each gear and overall top speed.
The published number for SS/SC is 143, C6 186. All vehicles without a ecm limiter will be drag limited at some point, even an F-16. To go faster requires more HP or a gearing change. The C6 sees top speed in 5th gear, 6th is too tall to pull again the aero drag. Tire ratings allow SS/SC and C6 to be ungoverned. Most vehicles are governed so as not to exceed tire speed ratings. They have to protect you from yourself

took mine up to 155mph, but when i posted it here, most people didn't believe it, but i didn't really care because the idiots have not tried to go that fast or they would know i'm right.... that night i went back out to get a vid of me doing it, and i got a vid hitting 120, then when i went back the other way i got pulled over... luckily i was only at 80 when coming off the ramp and he let me go... my radar detector didn't catch him cause his was off, and he was just driving down the road when he seen me.
i'll get a vid of it sometime, but not until something can be planned out in advance.
