top speed.

exactly my point... all of these reviews blah blah blah... no one has topped one out and advertised the actual speed.. all reviews are based off of what gm told them. this car WILL go faster than 143 lol.. i know it will
if you see that statement says the z rated tires allow for a 143 mph top speed... that says nothing about the car's actual top speed. i can tell you the car pulls fairly hard all the way up to 150.
The other night on the highway at about 3 in the morn me and my buddy where out to see how fast we can go. I got scared at 140 and let off but she was still pulling. My buddy was freakin out. He was like theres no way this is a 4 banger. Anyways it was alot of fun. I dont think iv ever seen trees flying by so fast before in a car.

Someone from Chevy was quoted on this on a website last year (don't remember where I saw it).

topped her out for a good solid minute... didnt go a hair above 144.. had open highway for about 12 miles.. not one single car. dont see how anyone is getting above this.. i was chillen in 5th with no more pull. more power = more speed
In my redline I've gone to 220kmh (uhh..not really sure about mph, but its like 130, 135 something like that) and it was still pulling hard but alas, I ran out of road and had to brake/down-shift to make the exit ramp.
I've been told the LS is capped at 170km/hr (haven't tried this yet engine only has 4000km under it's belt
) and this is delimited by the chip. I've considered getting this raised but figure if I'm going that fast on a regular basis (or more than once just to see what the car can do) I should be shot on the spot

Only way to accurately measure top speed is by radar gun or GPS. These measur the amount of time to cover distance. A speedo might be off a tiny bit at high speeds.
Car and Driver got 145mph out of one. They used to use radar but I think they use GPS.
Areodynamic forces increase expodentaily the faster you go. If I remeber right---the drag at 120mph is FOUR times WORSE then at 60mph. So even from 145mph to 155mph the drag increase must be alot. You must add alot of hp to increase top speed from 145 top 155mph.

avro206 has a great point... It might be geared to do 250+ and you could still feel a lot of
power left at 125-130... but drag is NOT linear... as you go faster it the resistance goes up exponentially... I wouldnt be suprised though if under the right conditions with the wind and weather... you could probably get it up to 150 or more .. as long as the gearing doesnt run out and its not ECU governed...

Not exactly. Drag limited top end is when you run out of enough horsepower to push your vehicle through the air.
As an example, let us imagine a vehicle that tops out at 145 MPH @ 4100RPM. The motor is making 230 horses at that engine speed. Change the rear gearing to a shorter set (higher numerically), say 20% deeper. The engine is now turning 4920 RPM and making 280 horses at 145 MPH. The extra power will allow the vehicle to be pushed faster. After running the math, if my hypothetical vehicle needs 230 horse to run 145, it will need around 280 horses to push 155. The nature of wind resistance (cubic function) is such that it takes tremendous extra power to get small gains at top end. It needs an ever increasing amount of power for each additional MPH as the desired MPH goes up.
With the 20% higher gearing, 155 would show up @ 5260 on the tachometer. If the motor makes at least the 280 horses that it did at 4920 RPM at the 5260 mark, it will pull 155 MPH.
Now, if you meant that the vehicle was gearing limited, then yes, putting lower gears will lower top speed unless you feel like running in the red or if the total engine power at the higher RPM is less than needed to push the car at that speed.
ok so i just found out that i can get my car up to 110 without the governor downshifting me when i hit 110, i felt like i could go faster but i let off anyways. my spedo only goes up to 120. anyone know how fast a 2.2L sedan LT1 with no upgrades other then tires can actually go
btw, this was on a closed highway being used to make a short movie by me and some people

I have top the speedo out. Now to justify and make sure the speedo isn't off, I had my buddy that is a cop and fellow racer
radar me as i went by. i did two runs and he clocked me at 172mph and 179mph. Now there was more in it. BUT i do say that above the 155 mark she doesn't feel very stable. so i think i'm going to try and stick with going faster in a quarter mile, If i can get the bloody thing to stop misfiring.
