Question Shelf-life of Mobil 1 oil?

I've got a 5-quart jug of Mobil 1 5W-30 that's been sitting in my garage that I purchased roughly 2 years ago when I had my '01 Mustang. It's upopened and I was wondering if it would be safe to put in my Cobalt. Anyone knowledgeable enough about oil able to help me out? I've only got 700 miles on the SS so far, but I plan on changing the oil at 1000 miles.

So you don't get any bad info...I would just call them and ask to be safe.

That's just rediculous. I would never put my engine through the misery of the same oil for 15000 miles. That's like not taking a shower for 2 weeks, lol.

I read somewhere online that it is good for at least 5 years stored at a fairly regular temperature.

Exxon's site search doesn't seem to work right now.

you never know though, it could just be a new technology. just like 5 years ago, if someone said something about oil lasting 7000 miles they would all call you crazy.. and look what all of us use now

I would imagine 2 years is alright, especially if it is still sealed. If it was 5 years, I would not take the chance. Two years is not too old. Open it and take a look. If it looks fine, I am sure it is.
