With an ace, new Cobalt trumps 'old work truck'

Tom Spillman drove to WeaverRidge Golf Club on Wednesday in his trusty 1996 Chevrolet pickup.
"Just an old work truck," the 61-year old retiree from Komatsu said.
Following the swing of his life on hole No. 8, the East Peoria resident now gets to drive a brand-new Chevy Cobalt.
Playing in the Peoria Christian Center golf outing with Keith Rassi, Jim Rassi and Cecil Crutchfield, Spillman made a hole-in-one at the 168-yard par 3.
"My first one and probably my last one," Spillman said of the ace, a result of a faded 5-wood into a front-right hole location.
For the effort, Spillman gets the LS model of the 2006 Cobalt provided by Jim McComb Chevrolet in Peoria. The car sells for $18,335. Its color, appropriately, is "Victory Red."
Keith Rassi, part of their regular foursome at Quail Meadows, had never witnessed an ace before Wednesday.
"It was something else," Rassi said. "Rolled right in the cup.
"But Tom's a good golfer. He hits good shots most of the time."
The ace helped the group to a 4-under par 68 in the scramble format, which was good for a runner-up finish in B Flight.
According to United States Golf Association rules, accepting a prize worth more than $750 for a golf accomplishment is a violation of a player's amateur status. Technically, once he accepts the car, Spillman is considered a golf professional for one year.
The issue has been a controversial one lately, with golf's two governing bodies - the USGA and the Royal and Ancient - trying to reach a resolution.
"The USGA knows one shot is not showing skill," said Rick LeHew, field services director for the Chicago District Golf Association. "It's as much luck as anything. But the R&A is much more traditional. It probably won't be solved until at least 2008."

, the chevy where I am said it never took more than 8 weeks for any of the ones they ordered
so basically if the guy won a cobalt, he's still waiting 3 months at least to get the car. Someone posted the release schedule for the 06 models for the states and it shows they arent even producing the 06 til july.
as for the people that got their cars preordered.. it was still a long wait for them, and even longer for us canadians
like you said tho, the LS should be easier to get
