Will this work? Need expert opinions...

Okay so I'm looking to get some 18's from Tire Rack and the recommended tire size is 215/40-18...

Now I really want to try to minimize the 4X4 look as much as I can until I get some Eibachs, but will a 225/40-18 tire work as well?

I know basically nothing about this type of thing and just want to make sure... props

I'm not sure if it will work, but the tire you have listed is 1 centimeter wider, which will give the tire about 4 millimeters more sidewall.

When replacing the stock tires 225-40r18 are often the preferred size because of better tire selection and prices.

The stock SS/SC tire is a 215/45r18. Your recommended tire of 215/40 is smaller, and being put on a base model suspension, which has more clearance. So it will absolutely fit.

Your requested tire of a 225/40 will also fit without a problem.

Sidewall height of each:

215/45 = 96.75 MM
215/40 = 86.0 MM
225/40 = 90.0 MM

As you can see, the SS/SC stock set up has the overall largest diameter. You next concern is the width. Going up one size width (215 to a 225) is fine. You won't rub. Don't go any higher.

I personally recommend 215 (8.46 inches) on a 7" wide wheel, and a 225 (8.85) on a 7.5".
