Exclamation Cobalt Insurance Questions..

Alright i am 19 an im planning on attending collage in MaryLand. I have a 2005 Cobalt LS Sedan. Right now i pay $2600.00 a year. When i go to college my car will not leave my garage since i will be riding with my GF, it will be jacked up with a cover on it till spring. I was wondering if any of you guy's insurance companys give discounts for collage kids or anything that would help me out. My insurance company will not budge. My car is paid off till january 2007. Please leave name of your company and maybe a phone number so i can start investagating :P thanks guys you rock!

Tell them the car is going to be garaghed while you are in school and you will no longer be a primary driver with your parents to take it out once a week. See what they say.

And I do reccomend that you do that btw. Have somene take it out once a week.

you may just be assed out with this one... under NO circumstances should you cancel your insurance... when you try to get it back you will get screwed because you are considered a higher risk... may have to bite the bullet..

All insurance companies will give you a discount based on the number of miles you will drive the car in a year. Since you'll be gone 9 months of the year or so, be sure to enter a low estimate like 2,000-3,000 miles a year. My insurance company, USAA, provides an additional discount specifically for students like you who are leaving their car behind while going to college. You or one of your parents have to be either military or former military to get in to USAA, however, so I don't know if that will help you.

Or Progressive. I'm paying $136/mo for full. I think they may be able to drop it to storage insurance while its parked. GM should be okay with that if its just sitting in the garage. If not...guess you're screwed.

I suggest the same as snobird. This is my third deployment to Iraq coming up and I have Geico. Let them know the vehicle will be stored in a locked and sucured facility and checked on daily. 0 miles from this start date till you call to report your back. They will give you a really good rate.
