How many miles before 1st oil change

Just curious what everoyne got out of their car for the first Oil Change. My SS/SC book tells me to wait for the computer to let me know it needs an oil change. Good idea? No? Suggestions?

I always wait untill the computer says so... i doubt they would put a monitor in there, tell you to use it, and it's really bad...

As will be my case too once I get there. I am thinking of changing out the oil I have in there to Mobile 1 Synthetic though while she's still young.

If you've got the SS/SC that your sig indicates, you've got Mobil 1 in there from the factory. And changing that every 3k wastes only time and money, but to each their own...

You may indeed be a *******, but you're still right in that they come with Mobil 1.

I'm gonna get mine changed at 1500-2000... then go by the meter. That Mobil 1 synthetic can last a lot longer than 3000 miles.

I was reading about synthetic oi the other day and the article said it should last 3 times the convential oil. My car has 2900 miles on it and meter is at 67% so going by that oil change should be right at 9k miles. I've run other cars over the years with Mobil 1 and changed it at 7500 miles.

well, my oil was changed about 2500 miles ago, but i went and looked at it the other day, and it's pretty dirty. The oil life guage says i've got 64% left, but i think i'm going to change it before that.

i can tell you this... my cobalt runs pretty clean... after 4, 5000 the oil still looks pretty good... and i'm not using synthetic... i think those that are changing every 3,000, like tomtwtwtwtwtw or whatever said, you're wasting your money... instead of changing it at 3,000, look at it first and see if it needs to be changed...

I was religious about every 3000 miles. When my dad got his Cobalt, the dealer put a sticker on the windshield saying 3750 miles. A good estimate is 3-5k miles, dependent upon vehicle and what type of oil was used.

Wait a second, because of breaking in, we're supposed to change the oil sooner the first time around? Can anyone verify that? Because I didn't know. I have a 2.2L model if that makes any difference...

They say you should because as the engine settles in, there tends to be more metal shavings and such that find their way into the oil during the first 1000 miles or so. However our engines are broken in from the factory...the rest of the car isn't, but that has nothing to do with the oil. I personally don't see the need to make an early oil change unless you're moving from dino to synthetic.

I did my first one at 1,500, then once every 3,000-4,000 miles.
