Or helping them run the races? Either way its cool. Have fun doing them. RedCavyRS99 08-23-2004, 09:26 PM little bit of both a group down here will let me drive some in exchange for some event help so i win hehe :P zstyle 08-24-2004, 01:07 AM Cool, I'd take the old Z autocrossin' if it weren't such a freaking cross-country pilgramage to the nearest event. Lunchbox 08-24-2004, 07:36 PM i so want to try autocrossing. hit me up on aim man. Themercer 01-12-2005, 12:58 AM I plan on AutoXing this summer with my Integra. I've gone to watch a few events, and they look like they're crazy fun. I don't know why, but I could never get into drag racing. Driving is a line is great and all, but I'm a sucker for tearing around back roads and sharp turns. I'm worried about the Cobalt's torsion-beam rear suspension. Have any of you ever seen an older VW autocross? Since they have twist beam rear suspensions, their rear wheels always lift around sharp turns. I don't know all that much about rear suspensions, so if anyone can clue me in on why GM went with torsion beam, let me know. are any of you going to be racing in the philly region SCCA? zstyle 01-13-2005, 02:48 AM I think the reasons that GM went with the torsion beam rear suspension was: lower cost they take up less space Apparently the torsion beam suspension that they developed handles very well, better then some cars with IRS (ie. SRT-4). But a magazine also said that the car is most at home in high-speed sweepers, and I'd imagine that it would autocross like those VW's. That's one thing that would be nice to upgrade on the Cobalt... to IRS. Themercer 01-16-2005, 06:27 PM I suppose they have to cut costs somewhere. Who knows though, maybe they've found a way to make it work well. I guess I'll just have to wait for a test drive to find out! rm25x 02-24-2005, 10:40 AM There are some low speed events in my area this summer that I am really thinking about trying with the Cobalt. :-D thehemi 05-11-2005, 11:18 AM Supposedly the new Mustang handles very well without an IRS. I imagine a well-tuned suspension, IRS or not, will do very well. |
