Did they fix the manual transmission for 2007?

I heard the older manuals in the 2.2 and 2.4 didnt shift very good. Did they fix this for 2007? and would a short throw shifter fix it? Im lookin into buyin a cobalt ss/na soon and Im wondering if I should spring the extra cash for a 2007, I like the new radio, but it alone doesnt justify the extra cash. Any info on the tranny would be appreciated, thanks

The transmissions are just fine, the people you talk to most likely need instructions on how to shift more than a new shifter or transmission.

I have a 2001 Cavalier Z24 and have no issues with the transmission or shifter.

The only complaint I have is the fact that they are FWD so that means no direct trans to shfter connection just cables. With cables theres alot less feel to the shifts and a little more slop.

nope

I have a 06 ss/na, and yesturday I was drivin a 2007 ss/na and the transmission shifting feels exacly the same, so I wouldn't spend extra cash on the 07, but I do love the new steering wheel and the radio too.

Whoever is telling you they don't shift very good is an idiot. The getrag tranny on these cars is the best feeling FWD shifter GM has ever produced. I honestly prefer it to a Honda shifter and Honda's shifters are percieved as having the best feel in the industry.

I think they are saying it is poor in comparison to the SS/SC transmission. If you compare those side by side, there is a clear winner. That said, there is nothing really "wrong" with the standard getrag.

I have driven the S/C--its different but I found it quite easy to drive---it gets alot of complaints.

I also drove an Alero with a 2.2L 5 speed---that thing seriously sucked---didn't feel anything like the F23 getrag in my car. The clutch take up was extremly high
