Car'SS Car'SS Everywhere - Can't Dealers Trade?

Hi,

How do dealers trade cars?
Does the originating party lose the complete sale?
Is this a rude question to ask your saleman?

The reason I ask is there are 26 SS/SC all within 1 to 5 hours
of my dealership. Two match my order almost perfectly.
They have OnStar and I did not order that.

Thanks for any info!

Dealers buy the car from the other dealer. Usaully they trade it with another car and send a check along for the difference or vice versa.

I know cause I have done it before (I drove the cars for a trade).

The issue is getting the dealer with the car to give it up. More than likely they won't give up a popular car.

I got my car in another state, but I did that because I got it from the dealer my father works for, not because they had the car. You can asked you perfered dealer to get the car for you but chances are they won't be able too (at least with that popular of a vehicle).

If it's for a color or a certain option package ect it's usaully no problem.

Just buy it from any dealer

Most dealers will not trade the SS because they want to please their local customers keep the cars local and perform the services. Just find the one you want, call them and buy it.

If they want your business they will trade with other dealers...when my mom got her GTO they didn't have one on the lot she liked so they traded a G6 for a GTO with another dealership around the area...I mean they will trade if you do ask...

Yeah GTO's didn't sell that well though. I mean I can still probably find a 2004 GTO brand new on a lot.

And they trade it to a dealer they lose the business. They don't get the service business, they don't get to sell you a car, they lose a popular car and get something ordinary. When my car showed up people were just stopping by to see the SS/SC, hell one guy saw it and ordered one the next day.

The Scoop on Trading

As a Chevy Dealer (work for one) I have helped some here locate vehicle's... just check my past posts - nobody has listed as many as I. Here is the scoop on trading and how it goes down.

Once you have a deal with your dealer, they may or may not have your vehicle.
If they do not, dealers go on gmdealerworld and locate a vehicle.
hopefully what you want exists - we look out 250 miles with NY emissions.
They search for what you want, equipment, options, colors, with the proper emissions.
Dealers either do a floor plan swap or they have to buy it from the dealer.
if they have to buy it, unless you are paying sticker, most dealers do not do that.
if a floor swap, preferred, the dealers simply usually trade vehicles.
Your dealer gets your car, the other dealer looks at your inventory and says what they want.
If trading, the cars are usually transfered by someone who drives the car, like retirees.

HOWEVER...

If a dealer only has ONE of a particular car, they may not want to give that car up.
If it's a rare/hot type of vehicle, like the Corvette or Cobalt SS and if the dealer will only get a few of these a year, they are more inclined to say NO to a trade.
So if they only have one Cobalt SS, they sometimes will not trade.
Some will, but the selling dealer/salesperson will get credit, it's just a swap.
the dealer wants to sell you the car, but if another dealer isn;t willing to give it up.
it's not the selling dealers fault if search results are limited and you are picky and they can't find anyone willing to trade.
You have the option to ORDER or WAIT.

Or you could contact me, give me ZIP and I can search. If I do that, PM me your real e-mail address. I know where everything is!

Hope this clears up some things.

i was talking about this with my father. hes the finance manager of an auto mall. he basically said that the the only way another dealership is going to give up the cobalt SS is if they are doing a trade for another cobalt SS. around here nobody will give em up for anything less.
cant hurt to ask, thats what im gona do.
