Catback and intake Vs stock. stock wins?

I was driving to the airport the other day when i ran into another Laser Blue SS/sc Same as mine, we raced one time from the line and i beat him by a significant amount. Only thing was he had intake and exhaust.

My question is how hp/tq should you expect from these mods. i would have thought with those he would have had a clear advantage.

Note* he said he was still boosting 12.5

20HP, and 10-15TQ is a safe and conservative guess, but probably more.

I think some cars are just born with more power than others. I have only intake and exhaust and I have beaten a stage 2 ss s/c from a roll! True he had some messed up plugs, but still 15 lbs of boost vs. 12.5? Its almost a no brainer but I won!

i mean we raced froma dead stop, so maybe he just took off to fast and wheel hopped. but even so he should have been pulling me in.

O and i dont have a factory monster or anything. and my driving kinda sucks too.

there are some cobalts that are produced in Canada that stock put down 280HP. Maybe that is what you guys are seeing.

i think your all missing the point. You can add all the modifications you want but if the car can't breath all that power is not being put to good use. I was the stage 2 that blown4banger beat and I believe still that he has much better throttle response and probably the same top end hp as I do. add to the mix my f'ed up plugs and you can see how I would lose to a cai and custom exhaust setup. The best bang for the buck has switched in my opinion to a cai and exhaust system since together installed it would cost about the same as a gm stage 2 installed and you will be faster or the same depending on if you buy new plugs. Messed up plugs are going to really f up this cars power output when adding more boost so when you get ready to add the engine power be prepared to buy one step colder plugs and a gap of .40 is needed.

Also he beat me but blown has a way with 'blowing' things way out of proportion (he is 17 leave him alone ). I lost but he never left my side and this was only in 3rd gear starting at 60mph.

edit: 7000rpm

Are you big or where you cruising w/ a passenger, cause I raced a stock car with my intake/exaust and lost, but I had 2 friends in the car.

if you have 2 big ass subs and a sub box, w/ amp etc, all that can add weight and go against you.

Thats also why, if you guys would have gone threw gears, you would have pulled on him each gear change, becuase u have the uped rev limiter, there for when u change gears your already in power band and he isnt, the 7k rev limter helps alot, i have raced my friends ion, he didnt have the uped rev limter and i do, each gear i would pull harder and harder.

yeah the race we did didn't determine much except the fact his car had much more response and or power at the speed we were at cus he would jump out then that was it he never got further from me. I wouldn't try to say I didnt lose cus I did but each time I see a post like this I need to step in cus we both could totally be wrong and he sometimes spreads more excitement to others that may change descisions for other people and that could be bad
