Something weird happened last night!
Ok last night I was bored and had nothing better to do then just drive around. So last night a friend and I decided to do a practice run out in the backroads.
Give in mind I just installed the injen intake about a week ago (sounds great). So I to line up the car and started reving the engine at about 2,000 rmps. I let go of the clutch and start taking off no tire burning *trying to keep my tires as long as possible* just a little chirp so Im going and I shift from first to second at about redline and then In second something crazy happens the rmps jumped from 2 1/2 to 6 1/2 tottally missing all in between and then the engine started to sputter, then it died.
So I was totally freaking out man I just had the car 3 months and about 9,000 miles on it. I just started thinking I broke it. I tried to start the car and it did'nt want to turn on, I tried that twice. Then my friend asked to pop the hood so I did and I guess as soon as they opened it they smelled something kind of burned. When I got there I didnt smell anything. Checked the clamps and hoses thinking the intake came loose but no nothing was messed up.
So after a few minutes my friend tries to start the car and it turned on. I was like okkkk. So then we got ready to go and I tried to turn it on and it turned on but started to smell a lil burnt comin through the vent then it went away. I called up a friend of mine and told him what happened just before the car started workin he said it could have been the fuel cut off or a leak or vacume hose messed up but I checked and there were no leaks. Another friend said it could have just have had one of those days where it didnt want to work. So has anyone experienced anything like this ?? or can at least give me incite to what it could have been?

Nope I didnt get no codes I thought that myself but nope. After leaving it alone for a few minutes it started right back up and I got on it on to much because I thought if I got on it again and it happend again it might have been something serious but nope it didnt happen again. I know a few days earler I didnt have gas money my friend offered and had put 87 octane in as gas. I was like what the hell I dont know if that could have been it but also the whole week I havent been shift passed 3,000 rmps just to try to save gas cause I only get like 22mpg now with the intake. So I dont know if not gettting enough fuel in it and then driving hard caused it.
in town I get 22mpg I was getting about 25 in town without the intake. now it dropped to 22 mpg I havent been on the highway more than 10 miles at a time so im not to sure how it will do with the intake I think possible about 24-25 I know it does hurt.

ya, if you romped it into 2nd and the rpms jumped liked that along with the burnt smell sounds like clutch. The only thing that it doesn't explain is the car dying unless you stopped the car in a hurry and forgot to depress the clutch.

nope its not my first manuel car. Its my 3rd. I wasnt practicing launching just a practice run. I never had this problem before. I dont think it was the clutch that burnt because I would have smelt it burn while I was driving. I was shifting to second then it jumped rpms this was after I had shifted and let go of the clutch I let off the gas after I saw what happened the car started sputtering like let say like someone took a drink of somethign and started choking. So I to let the car slow down and then the engine died and came to a stop and didnt want to turn on. My shifting was fine actually it wasnt hard at all. It just died and it wouldnt turn on like 2 times that I tried.

You want higher octane to help reduce detonation.

are you 100% sure your shifter was all the way into second? If it was in the general direction of second but it wasnt all the way in, your engine would have been able to rev freely, there would be a loud grinding noise coming from your gears, and you may stall out if you let up the clutch completely while you are still pushing it into gear. Take it in and see if the dealership can find anything. It's worth finding out now and not having problems later.
