Cons:Srt4 owners, honda owners, nissan owners, mustang owners, camaro owners try to race you all the time, egg your car and various other things....
Pros: You own a chevy, its an SS/SC, you make all of ^^ them pissed

pros: tons of fun to drive, looks sharp, inexpensive, sorta of rare
cons: everyone wants to race you, I had three offers tonight. tough to keep clean, especially the rear. wheel hop sucks, first gear is too short.

Actually until that rumor becomes fact and we see some stats we have no way of knowing. I bet at best the 2.0T will be a 14.0 car. If it's any faster then that it's also going to be more expensive because it will need a new clutch, and axels probably to hold any extra power. Chevy isn't going to move the car up much more in price because it runs into a different class of competitors then with the Z, RX 8, and others.
Look for any new cobalt to have slightly greater performance then the current SS/SC, not significantly greater.
I've been wanting one of these things sense them came out, My job is now finally paying me enough to get one, plus another raise in about 1 month and a half.
Sept 13th, 2006 I pick her up. Rally Yellow, not the G85(sucks) but its the last one my dealership had in stock.

StellerSS, according to the gmbuypower.com site, there is a yellow 2006 SS/SC w/G85 at
HAMILTON CHEVROLET, INC.
5800 14 MILE RD, WARREN, MI 48092-3199
You might want to see if they can cut you a deal....
If you want to give up the yellow for black 2006 w/G85, then check out:
MORAN CHEVROLET, INC.
35500 GRATIOT AVE, CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI 48035-2847
They should be very interested in dealing at the end of the month, plus there is a $750 incentive on the 2006's...you may want to see if you can hit the price point you want before Sept 13.
Unless GM sweetens the incentives next month to move 2006 models, you could lose out on the $750 incentive. Oh...and the end of the month thing...if you really want to be a bastard, you wait until the last half of the day on the 31st of Aug, plan for an endurance test, and really wear the dealer down...dealers are measured by end of the month targets...if they are close, but not over, what they should sell in a month, they will be VERY interested in closing you, perhaps at cost...sometimes at a loss...

However, the Ion Redline will cease to exist next year, so the Cobalt would be the only car in GM using the LSJ while the Solstice GXP, Sky Redline, and Opel GT will be using the new 2.0L Turbo. It would be way cheaper for GM to just put the 2.0L turbo in all the cars, than to produce 2.0L LSJ's for just the Cobalt.
Also, the 2.4L for 2007 has the 2nd generation engine block from the 2.0L turbo. The 2.0L Supercharged LSJ did not get the new engine block. That suggests to me that it is going to be discontinued soon. If they planned on keeping the LSJ, why would they go to the effor to change to the new block on the 2.4L and not on the LSJ???
The SRT-4 with 300 HP will be out as well as the Mazdaspeed 3 with 250 HP. So it would be wise of GM to keep the Cobalt competitive. Then again, the Civic Si and the NEW 2007 Mini Cooper S (1.6L Dual-Scroll Turbo 175HP) make significantly less power still.
Also, I don't think they need a new transmission, clutch or axles with the 2.0L turbo. Stage II already puts out comparable power to the 2.0L turbo, so GM wouldn't sell stage II if those items wouldn't hold up. Most of the people with clutch problems on here either can't drive, or their cars make more than 300 crank HP.
I hope I am wrong, because then I won't have to but a 2008 Cobalt SS. If the car does get it, I'll be putting a deposit on one the day I get official word.
All speculation at this point, but where there is smoke...there's usually fire!
