Lightbulb Internal Instant Messaging!

I thought it would be a good idea to have a little icon maybe next to the VB Garage and Gallery icons that we could click on to instant message someone, not AOL or anything. An internal instant messanger that everyone has access to. It will let us go off topic on things without messing up threads and the hassle of PMing. What do you guys think?

*When people start to argue they can argue through instant messaging and leave a good thread unlocked*

Exactly the chatroom sucks. It would make life way easier to just have a little instant message icon that we can click on. It will open up a little window just like AIM and we can chat back and forth with no refreshing, no filling up PM boxes, no waiting to log into the chat room that nobody is ever in. Plus when you go to the chat room you have to leave the thread you are in to go chat. This way you can stay in a thread and chat with someone at the same time quickly. I think we should have this feature. Threads will stay on topic too. Nobody goes to the chat room for a quick answer you know what I mean. Plus the person you want to chat with has to go to the chat room too. This would be way easier.

Awsome thanks bro. I just thought of another good reason why we should have this.
When people start to argue they can argue through instant messaging and leave a good thread unlocked!

That wont end arguing in the threads. I'm not going to im someone and tell them they are a *******. I'm going to post it for everyone to see. It's more fun that way.

Yeah that's great and all bro but that's how you ruin a good thread.
If it was my thread and I was looking for answers and it got locked because of you I would be pissed. That's my point!

There's a difference between a good thread and a worthless one. Usually the worthless ones are the ones that get locked. Good ones usually get answered if it's a worthy question or thread. But your always going to have the jackasses on this forum who think everything is rice, or dont like what others have done to their cars, etc. and end up talking **** and arguing. It's a forum it happens.

If people start getting out of had why not just inform a moderator. Then they can give them a warning or if need be a little vacation. But then usually the mods just lock the thread when it starts getting out of hand. So I guess that solves the issue the best.

People are still going to argue no matter what that's all I'm sayin.

Yeah I hear you people will argue no matter what. This will give them a place to take it quicker than a mod could respond. Either way aside from using the IM to fight it has more perks than just that. It would be a cool little feature that people would definitely use a lot.

Um do you know how hard that would be to do? you are telling them to develop an instant messaging program out of nowhere. The PM thing works just fine. you even get a pop-up saying you have a new PM. if you want to argue through messager, then get on AIM. Though a good idea, its just not worth all the time unless someone on here developed it and sold it as a software package.
